That's probably pretty close to market rate for a guy his size and with his production ... which just goes to show, how inflated free agent prices get.

Well, Sabonis and Dudley - if you average their height!
But Sabas was past his prime and Duds had no offense.

Didn't we have Ha and some huge Euro at the same time? I thought they were both 7'3"...
Looks like that was just summer league. We did have Joel and Ha in 2005 though, and they average out to 7'2"...

i like hibbert but i'm not in favor of doing a S&T for him.I'm in favor of paying him the max to get him, but it is 3 to 4 mill over what he is worth as it. were already overpaying him so why give more assets when he isn't worth what we are paying for him to begin with?

FWIW.... Listened to the MSP on 750 AM. Chad had Quick and Haynes on at different times. Both say that Hibbert isn't as loved by some in Indy as you might expect, and that they've talked to people in Indy and feel there's a good chance that Indy does not match, especially at the max. In fact, while much of the national media talked about how good Hibbert was during the playoffs, supposedly, Indy was a little disappointed in Hibbert's play.

I disagree - I expect Indy to match. But I'm hoping Indy can work something out with Kaman, then ask us for some small compensation for them to not match, and let us have the center.

What about just for a trade exception? Not a big deal for that

The Pacers have agreed to a 5 year deal with George HIll, according to a source.

I believe only one guy per team can get a 5 year contract now, so looks like at the least, Indy will not be negotiating with Hibbert during this time to up our offer.

We can do sign and trade without giving anything up, FYI. Indy could S&T Hibbert to us and just receive a player exception. Or, we could send a Claver and/or Freeland back, and the net difference in value would still create a trade exception for Indy. I'd prefer to agree to a S&T at this moment, as it would ensure that Hibbert is here (as opposed to waiting 12 more grueling days).

Hadn't heard that rule.... But even if.... Hibbert's signing our max offer of 4 years. So, all Indy has to do is match, and there's no issue.

If I'm Indy.... I prefer another team come along, offer him the max, and then match.

We can't offer the 5th year, and our annual salary increases are smaller, IIRC. (without S&T, of course)

He could always take slightly less money for a guaranteed 5th year from them, and this eliminates that possibility is all.

I think Oshley has already mentioned this in interviews, and I agree that the Blazers should have a team pow-wow as soon as Indy matches (if and when they do), and they should very seriously consider using this summer's cap space on whatever leftover free agents are willing to sign for one and two year deals. If set up properly, the Blazers can again have a large chunk of cap space in Summer of 2014. As of now, there will be a LOT more UFA's worth getting excited over.

The risk is that LaMarcus is upset at two years of limbo and playing with too little talent and demands a trade before the retool can be finished.

Why would Indy prefer another team to come along?

Won't Batum pretty much eat up all our cap space if we match?
