What are the odds of Indiana matching Portland's offer on Roy Hibbert?
    Chad Ford (1:31 PM)

51%. They are really on the fence. If they can find a replacement that they are comfortable with for cheaper, they may let him go. Chris Kaman is coming in today into Indy. Personally I feel that's a pretty big downgrade, but Larry Bird has been a huge fan of Kaman's.

Hoping this meeting between Indy and Kaman goes well, but Ford's right - that's a pretty big downgrade.

As for the mention of Larry Bird.... well, Chad.... he's no longer running things, so I'm not sure how that's relevant.

Does Bird have any sort of attachment to the organization (i.e. ownership, other employment, or anything else?)

Yeah, ya think? I've been posting throughout this entire thread. I think you really should spend some time re-reading my post. My point was that Indy had no motive to offer Hibbert a max. That would COST THEM MORE MONEY. They were better off waiting for Portland to come along and offer the max we can offer, since it's a lot less than Indy's max.

Nice job attempting to call me out, though. You jumped the gun there. Are you Jaynes? Canzano?

Yeah, but I guess you don't understand today's pro athlete. Most have pretty big egos, even the ones who come across humble.

It's easier for Hibbert to get his max deal via a team like Portland, where Indy can simply match, than for Indy themselves to offer Hibbert the max, which would mean more money and more years. If Hibbert is pushing for a max contract, he's now got his max contract, but it's less expensive (and thus more desirable) for Indy.

Ken Berger: Also, Houston's offer sheet with Omer Asik has spiked interest in unrestricted centers Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman, sources say. 2 minutes ago

Shit. More competition for centers, driving up prices = Indy (IMO) more likely to match price tag of Hibbert. That's the market for centers dictating those high prices.

I will look it up, but when was the last time a true center led his team to a finals?

Shaq with Miami? Granted, that was a lot of Wade. But Wade doesn't get there without Shaq.

Dwight was the last to lead a team, Shaq was the last to lead a team and win. Fairly recently, actually.

Is Duncan a Center? He led Spurs to championship in 2007 (one year after Shaq/Miami won).

Is anybody thinking Hibbert will 'lead' the team? It's LMA's team, with or without Hibbert.

I'm not. But if we somehow actually end up with Hibbert, I think we'll be a much better team.

No, but if you pay a guy a max contract, you should expect more than a role player
