Contingent on Deron Williams re-signing with Brooklyn. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/sto...d-joe-johnson-trade-atlanta-hawks-sources-say
It's being said it's no longer contingent on D. Williams re-signing. Looks like it's a go regardless.
Billy King. Giving a declining Wallace $10m/per and now he's trading for Joe Johnson?! The worst GM in recent memory.
...the Nets would have 3.5 all-stars in their starting 5 if they are able to retain D-Will and Lopez, why would Billy King be a terrible GM for accomplishing that?
"If Jeezy's payin' LeBron, I'm payin' Dwyane Wade" Oops! Better change that to Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace.
They’d have one all-star and two former all-stars. Joe Johnson and Wallace are not going to be all-stars again. Their starting center is usually hurt but when healthy averages 5 RPG with poor defense. The team wouldn’t have any flexibility to do future signings nor trades. In a season sign and trades won’t be allowed to luxury tax teams like the Nets. They are following the blueprint of the 2001 Knicks. Adding overpaid declining vets such as Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury, Penny Hardaway, Antonio McDyess; they all had amazing all-star seasons during their careers. None of them contributed much of anything to the Knicks except sucking up massive salaries. I’d expect Brooklyn to do better for the next year or two, but they won’t be a contending team and in 3 years they’ll be atrocious.
...Both D-Will and JJ are perennial All-stars and Crash is only 29 years old [granted he has logged a lot of minutes in his career, but he has plenty left in the tank!] maybe I should have said 2.5 All-Stars with Lopez soon to make it 3.5 when he exceeds his career averages of 17.4 pts / 7.5 rebs / 1.6 blks next season. I don't think it is an equal comparison to say D-Will, JJ, Crash, and Lopez are similar to the 2001 Knick scrubs you mentioned. Sure, they will be in the luxury, but who cares when you have a dominant starting 5 that can contend with the Heat every year. Also, who the hell does sign-and-trades anymore?
I doubt it, I think they are trying to keep Jsmith to let his deal expire and go after DWight/Cp3 this summer
