I don't think that it's that unlikely that Wallace is a better player than Batum over the next four years. I think that Wallace is better right now, and while there's a chance that Batum gets better and Wallace gets worse, neither of those are certainties.

It's a lot of money, for sure, but if the Nets can fill up the roster around him, DWill and Lopez they can be pretty good.

Shutter your windows because he'll be down to Batum-level by then. Couldn't alter his game? Are you aware he is a PF who had to play SF because of Aldridge, and still knocked the socks off of Batum, a natural SF?

A PF pretending to be a SF in McMillan's system, a system in which only the center is allowed to play inside, and in which there are no plays to score inside.

I was pointing out facts, and Wallace was an All-Star in Charlotte at SF. I don't have an argument, other than showing yet again that jlprk has limited knowledge of the game, and is best served sticking to bashing Nate, Roy, LMA, and whoever else pops into his mind.

The Nets split Wallace between SF and PF at about a 50/50 rate.

I said he's a natural PF who played SF for us, and Batum was no competition. Please quote where I said that most of his Charlotte minutes were at PF.

Good old 82games. You can always cite that site to confuse everyone. So you carefully chose a year, 2006-07, in which he played 13 / (13 + 39 + 12) = 20% of his season minutes at SG. Sure he did.

Summary: 1) Wallace is better than Batum, so why wouldn't he make $10M, when Batum will get $12M? 2) In their many Howard trade talks, Orlando told Brooklyn they desire Wallace, so Brooklyn overpaid us for him. I read that in national articles at the time we traded Wallace. Why would Brooklyn now give up on Howard by lowballing Wallace and losing him?

I don't know about that. Gerald did sustain an injury last season to his shooting hand that seemed to hinder his shooting... go figure. Maybe age and collective injuries take their toll, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him justify that sort of $

Batum, like all young players, is making his $$$ on potential. That's the way it goes in this league, you're paid more for what they hope you can do then what you've proven to do. I don't think most people consider GW a PF, at best he's a stretch 4, but to say that's his natural position would be wrong imo. Most PF's aren't 6'7" and 220 lbs. He's a slashing 3 that also plays in the post because his jumper is broken. I like GW, but his best years are well behind him and in this day and age 10 mil is a lot for him.

It's an unholy combination of a couple of things that I think make it a terrible deal. 1. Mileage -- Wallace has played an aggressive, super physical brand of basketball for a long time and sacrificed his body. 2. Skillset -- Super aggressive, high flyers without a consistent jumper have not typically aged well when their legs go around 30.

I find it incredibly unlikely that he'll be able to justify this kind of money in another year ... and I think last season's inconsistency and inability to finish was the proverbial canary in a coal mine.
