yeah, its pretty fucking stupid to trade him when he's locked in, in his early prime, we have young talent around him, and cap space available. its like not going to be a better situation than it is right now to rebuild/retool a roster.
plan B would be to S&T Batum. My target has always been Igoudala, who I think is a definite upgrade at the position.
Yeah.... and we'd be doing just fine if Roy's knees hadn't exploded and Oden hadn't completely broken down in less than a full season of games (added up). Roy/Aldridge/Oden should have been an awesome trio. You can't blame the plan because of unforeseen health problems. If we had drafted Durant and kept ZBO, would we be in the same situation? The flaw was management and bad luck, not going for young players and cap space.
How about you go tell the Thunder that building through the draft doesn't work. I'm sure they'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
oh it can work sometimes. you just have to be historically bad for several years in a row and have the ping pong balls bounce in the right way at the same time a real superstar player is in the draft pool (which I think is about ever 2-3 years). if that's a plan, so be it.
So how does a small market team, let's say Portland get a big time superstar to play for them, and be happy playing for them
Portland had a 100 million dollar salary back then, That's not happening now, so how would this Blazer team benefit from that, and who would you target?
Why won't it happen? If a GM convinced paul he could build a team to contend for a title, he'd spend the money. We need to stop this 5 year window bullshit and slow building. win now at all costs by making big multiplayer trades. Andre Igoudala is who I would target. I think Philly would like to dump his salary and go for their own youth movement, so as long as LA and LIllard are here, go for him.
Iggy would be a minor upgrade in the grand scheme of things, don't you think? Scoring average has gone down every year since 2007-2008
I don't care. he's an allstar and that's good enough for me. I think he'll fit in nicely...great defense, penetrating, will take big shots.
well he's probably available now and we have cap space. like i said, just shoot first ask questions later.
Well sure you want more. I want Lebron and Paul and Dwight. It's not happening. It might not be a GIANT upgrade, but it's an upgrade. If you can continue to upgrade each position, IMO, you're heading in the right direction.
Harden seems to be a (THE) key part of MM's plan. That is the problem. As an RFA, there is no way OKC doesn't match a MAX offer for Harden. It only averages $14mil per season. OKC would have a lot of options for how to deal with this - and NONE of their good options includes letting a big-time talent walk for nothing. They can sign and trade Harden. They can match Harden, have a high team salary for one season (but still under the lux tax), then the next year trade one of the big 4 for a cheap, young player. They can match Harden and trade Westbrook. They can match Harden and sign and trade Ibaka. We are not going to get Harden unless we do a sign and trade and include pretty valuable assets going back to OKC. Forget it.
