K.C Johnson @KCJHoop Add two names to Bulls' free-agent possibles: Michael Redd and Jerryd Bayless, who just became a UFA after Toronto pulled qualifying offer.
The Bulls are acting as if they only have the MMLE to spend. If that's the case, it's hard to see Jarryd coming here. I can't imagine there isn't at least one team that wouldn't pay him more than that. If we could sign him, I definitely would. He seems like a good talent and good guy, but just hasn't put it together for whatever reason. He definitely has game though, and has much more physical ability than any of our other options. Plus I believe he's more of a 1/2 a la Jason Terry than he is a pure 1, so he could be our 3rd guard off the bench when Derrick comes back. He also has a decent outside shot, reducing the need to resign Korver.
I have no opinion on Redd other than it's been a very long time since I saw him play well. Bayless would have fit right in with the Bulls' guards last season. He started last season healthy then missed 3 weeks in January. Returned then went out with a hip-pointer. Returned only to almost immediately suffer a torn oblique that ended his season. He wasn't much of a 3-point shooter until last season. That could have been a fluke. It was only 31 games and 104 attempts. My pal C.J. Watson made a slightly higher % of his first 105 three-point attempts last season than Bayless did. Still, if the price is right, he could be an interesting player...he can score.
Nothing here to make me think minimum 8-peat. Plugging holes to keep the ship from sinking, nothing more, nothing less. Redd would be bilge pump 1 and Bayless bilge pump 2. Or maybe the reverse. Doesn't really matter.
