    PACERS WILL NOT "MATCH" HIBBERT

    David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt
Indy, per source, will give Hibbert the same terms that Portland was ready to give in offer sheet, & so won't technically "match" the sheet.

Looks like we just set the market for him so he could cash in.

Well no kidding. You were dreaming if you thought Hibbert was ever going to weara a Blazers jersey. The Pacers would be dumb as rocks not to match.

If he says "No" and signs with Portland, would Indy then match?

Great news, means we don't have to wait around for 3 days, and can go hunt out a new RFA NOW, or someone else. Nice move by Indy, IMO.

They aren't cash strapped. They have the dough.

not that I want to call Aldridge a liar, but if Roy's in Portland (and he is), and he's going to sign our offer sheet (like he's projected to), then IND has to "match" term-for-term, letter-for-letter. The only way they wouldn't is to say "Hey Roy, don't sign anything with the Blazers, we'll come up with this sheet here." and he does.

They're going to try to get him to sign their offer instead of ours.... which will no doubt be a toxic offer with a bunch of money up front.

Well, if he signs that with Indy.... It means we can move to Plan B immediately instead of waiting 3 days.

That would be better if we don't have to tie up our cap space with someone we have zero chance of signing. I wonder why Indy would prefer signing him outright? Perhaps they want to take care of other free agents first then sign him on the 16th or something…

It means they can structure the contract on their terms instead of matching a front loaded or toxic contract the blazers would probably offer

They're doing the Blazers a favor by not tying up their cap space.

I'm willing to bet "same terms" means same years/amount, not the toxic offer part.

Unless you are conspiracy lovers and you think that KP is just telling people they will give him the same amount so Portland goes after someone else instead, and then Hibbert is stuck taking what the Pacers actually do offer him.........

If Pacers sign Hibbert w/o offer sheet, can tack on non-guaranteed 5th year and time signing to use rest of cap space first.
