Brandon Roy has reached a verbal agreement with the Wolves, according to a member of his family. Roy confirmed the news to Dave 'Softy' Mahler of KJR in Seattle. Exciting to think of the possibilities of this signing. If he returns to what he was, this franchise will be a contender.
I don't want to burst your bubble, but Brandon will never return to what he was. I hated to see him go, but his knees are shot. He has no meniscus in either of his knees. That doesn't grow back. I'll be shocked if you can get 15 productive minutes a night out of him. I'll be surprised if he is able to practice much without hurting himself. When he was healthy, he needed to dominate the ball to be effective. He walked the ball up the court, sized up the defense, then went one on 1-3 and scored (or drew a foul) most of the time. Now he doesn't have the lateral quickness, nor the first step that gets him by defenders. That mostly leaves him shooting jumpers....which he's still pretty good at. But, there isn't a variety of moves left in his knees, and he can be defended when he has to do the same thing pretty much every time. Lastly, by the end of his last season, he couldn't have checked me on the defensive end, and that's not good. I read in another thread that the T-pups will amnesty Darko to sign Roy. That seems like a big gamble to me. Darko ain't all that, but he's a serviceable backup big. I'm not so sure that Brandon will be serviceable for very long. I hope I'm wrong, because I still like Brandon as a person, and hope he still has something in the tank as a player. Go Blazers
His knees were shot. I wouldn't be surprised to see him come back strong this season. After all, he knows how good he feels. Believe me though that the Wolves using the amnesty on Darko is not a risk as they will most likely use it on him whether they need it to sign Roy or not. He is not a serviceable backup. He is a cancer that supposedly doesn't work very hard to get better.
If Brandon 'comes back strong', as in a full time player, the Pups will be a top five contender. But I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. Brandon plays bone on bone in his knee, no padding. I hope this coming back to play doesn't result in him being hobbled for the duration of his next retirement. So after the dust settles, who is your serviceable backup big, Miller? Go Blazers
Wolves are also looking at Jordan Hill and Greg Stiemsma. I'm sure there are also other backup options out there. Miller is gone, they are just waiting to finish it so they have the option for trades. Love also plays some time at C.
Not a bad option at all in short minutes. Hill could be a viable option also. I don't think the Lakers will let him go though.
Roy never got out of the 1st round of the playoffs, even when he was in his prime. And he had a solid supporting cast with guys like LA, Oden, Joel....but he's going to be the same player he was his last year in Portland. Look up his stats.
He might just be a shadow of that last season but he also may come back as good as he ever was. I'm not a doctor but some of those procedure can make things work like there was never anything wrong so we will see. I'm not going to make assumptions either way but I know what I would like to see and that is the very productive player that we had seen in Portland before his last season. Honestly though, a team with Rubio, Love and Pek is leagues better than a team with LA (solid pf that was still raw), Oden (couldn't stay on the court) and Joel. Just saying that it was a very good supporting cast outside of LA.
I agree, Roy is going to be a 50/50 but didn't he have that same knee blood spinning as Kobe and AROD, he's going to be alright. 2nd note, greggor's and and dwill will be big man number 3 and number 4. Oh yeah , DORKO is a pile of crap and was not a serviceable backup, the guy was worthless, only time he did good was when he was guarding blake griffin. Other than that he was a piece of crap,

All they have to do is keep put lubrication in his knee's every once in awhile and he'll be fine. That's how bynum get's by. Hell a guy at work has the same issue as roy and he gets his knee injected once a week for 3 weeks and then he's good to go for a year.
Still waiting for this to become an official signing. Makes you wonder what else the Wolves are working on that they are holding off on making this and the Shved signings official. Hopefully we are holding off because of a trade for Iggy or Deng and they feel they may need the cap space.
