The News Herald - The deal signed by Nene with the Denver Nuggets is affecting the Cavaliers ability to come to terms with restricted free agent Drew Gooden, The News Herald is reporting. Gooden's agent, Calvin Andrews, expects a similar six year, $60 million contract for his client. Complicating things even further for the Cavaliers is the fact that the team already has Donyell Marshall and Anderson Varejao under contract, with Varejao becoming a restricted free agent next season. Some believe that Varejao is the team's power forward of the future, and may be the team's starter next season whether Gooden is signed or not.
I think that Gooden is going to end up back into the Cavaliers hands, although Gooden is a great rebounder, and could work well with the nuggets, he's definetely not worth $60 million.
You misintepreted that article garenas, it's not about Nugs/Gooden. It's saying the deal Nugs gave Nene is setting the bar for other free agents and what they think their market value is. Gooden is looking at Nene getting 60 mil, and thinks he deserves the same. Cavs should just look at sign and trade options, I don't think Gooden is a necessary piece to bring back. As the article stated, they have Varejao and also can use the MLE to sign another pf such as Reggie Evans or Lorenzen Wright. This article though, should be on the Cavs board.
I wouldn't think Gooden would like it in Denver anyways. He wouldn't get much playing time because of K-Mart, Nene, Evans and Camby. It's kind of hard to find the same playing time he got in Cleveland. I woud see him more likeley signing with the Cavs again.
