Barton standing reach is half an inch taller but wingspan is 1.25' shorter Barton max vert 34' Lamb max vert 38' Barton sprint 3.60 Lamb sprint 3.25 Barton agility 12.50 Lamb agility 10.98 If those are the correct numbers, I don't think they are close
Looks like someone has their numbers mixed up. NBAdraft.net has the same numbers for Beal and Barton. DraftXPress has Bradley Beal with the same athletisism numbers that Barton has on nbadraft.net. So it looks like nbadraft.net messed up and over-wrote Barton's numbers with Beals. Which is unfortunate because, Barton's numbers on draftxpress are in the bottom 5 in the entire draft. His times are similar to Sullinger, who fell as a PF, partially due to weak testing, and Barton is a 175 pound guard. In fact, his agility is the 6th worst in draftxpresses entire database(which has 4 entire draft classes), his sprint the 7th slowest. I hope he had pnemonia or something when he was tested, or that perhaps there was some other mistake. Those numbers are hard to believe. Update: I actually found a blog on Barton's numbers. The much faster ones I was looking at, apparantly originated from Chad Ford at ESPN. It seems that you have to be an "insider" to see them though.
He doesn't seem that unathletic with the eyeball test. He seems to move around the court every bit as well as lamb. But who knows, maybe he is really not a good athlete in terms of measurables. But some guys really make it work, like Andre Miller and Nick Van Exel.
The kid is driven, there is no doubt about that. Maybe Lamb scores a bit better in some athletic measures. But IF Barton has more drive, more competitive fire, more killer instinct, and a better head on his shoulders, I'll take him.
His advanced stats are impressive: Barton: 26.6 PER || 59 TS% || 6.7 WS Beal: 22.0 PER || 58 TS% || 6.0 WS Lamb: 22.1 PER || 59 TS% || 5.8 WS Beal and Baron have similar stats to Eric Gordon during his last/only year at Indiana.
I just watched a replay of the press conference introducing the players. It was interesting that Olshey said at pick #22 that Paul Allen started urging them to trade up to get Barton. They were amazed he was still there at #40. That was also quite an insight into how involved PA gets and how he influences things. Maybe PA didn't really feel comfortable jumping in like that with Cho?
I heard that Barton's numbers were unimpressive. But then again, so were Monta Ellis's - one reason HE fell to the second round. And he's not exactly unathletic.
