LOL. You think MIN and MEM will be Western Conference Semi-Finalists? MEM's pick is Top-14 protected, so it's better for us if they aren't lotto...but if MIN's pick is, say, a Top-3 protected and MEM's Top-14 protected pick, then that's good stuff right there.

Didn't Houston just pick up a couple of mid first-round picks for this year's draft? I don't recall anybody raving over their draft, and they didn't give up a player of Batum's caliber to get those meh picks.

Also, MEM went to 7 games with LAC last year, and was a WCF semi-finalist the year before. Minnesota will be a fringe playoff team, and will end up with another non-lottery pick in the teens.

Two garbage picks and Kyle Korver for Batum? If Olshey makes that trade, he should be immediately fired. Chase Buddinger was worth a first round pick this year. LOL

I dunno, I like the picks; we won't be good enough to lose our own pick to the Bobcats, so we'll have three next season, which could buy us a move up to top 8. Add a player for the right team, and maybe we luck into McAdoo.

    Rommel Time!

Yeah, seriously - who knows what will happen with MEM - and If we do give Minny Batum? They probably get out of the first round. This draft isn't deep like this years was. Hell, I'd barely care for any pick outside of Nerlens, Shabazz - MAYBE McAdoo or Poythress.

    Not sold on Zeller.

Chase Budinger isn't being paid 45 million dollars.

And no one raved about HOU's draft b/c they're trying to get Dwight Howard.

And Gerald Wallace got a #6 pick that people thought was insane.

MEM picked 25 this year, and got Wroten. MIN would've picked 10 this year and gotten Austin Rivers. And I don't think MEM is getting past OKC, LAL, SAS or LAC this year, so they're going to be in the 14-22 range.

I'm not saying it's optimal, but 2 picks and a non-guaranteed contract are 3 pretty decent assets for someone you don't want to pay anyway. And I think it's the floor, not what the deal will actually be.

Who says the Blazers don't want to pay Batum? Did I miss something?

It's a garbage trade, and if it becomes a reality, it should be widely criticized, because not only will the picks be garbage, but Olshey just gave a decent young player, within the market price for him, to a division rival.

I assume you're just being a contrarian, though. That is just a terrible trade. Why even worry about Korver in that instance? The Blazers have the cap space to just absorb the picks, and whoever is unfortunate enough to have Korver can just waive his non-guaranteed deal.

If Minnesota wants Batum bad enough, make them give up a Derrick Williams or a Luke Ridnour, who actually would have some on-court value with decent contracts.

David Kahn must be taking his crazy pills again and leaking this idiotic trade. Why, I have no idea, but it is literally the dumbest potential trade I've seen this summer.

Nope. I fully believe that paying 45M over the next 4 years to a slightly-above average SF is less valuable to a rebuilding team than draft picks and cap space.

And there's no way...NO WAY...that you can defend Nic making 4/45 as 'within the market price.'

If POR matched this, people already have criticized it. Getting two picks for a guy going away anyway b/c you don't want to hamstring yourself is a steal.

It's all academic anyway. Signals are pretty clear that Paul Allen is taking this business with Nic personally and whether it's good for the health of the team or not, he's not going to let his money lose to somebody else's smaller pot in a game of poker. Love it or hate (I'm a little bit of both) Nic is going to be a Blazer next year ... barring some mind-blowing trade that materializes out of thin air.

Of course I can defend it. It makes more sense than your silly argument about MEM not being able to make the WCSFs, or Minnesota not improving while replacing Martell Webster with Nic Batum, assuming a healthy Rubio.

    Congrats!

You just made a division rival better (and younger), and you received what will likely be to picks near #20 in a draft that won't be as deep as this year's.

I'm just wondering how you can defend this deal, and not try to get something of value from Minnesota, instead of terrible draft picks. Really, I'm confused. If you really like this deal, I have to question why.

Portland's 3 choices are to let him walk, or to overpay for him, or to deal him for at least something.

Looks like the "at least something"
