Why claim Darko? Isn't the point of having Leonard and Freeland to get them some burn and see what they can do? I'm all for signing Hickson as he and LA can play together to give us an athletic front line, but Darko seems like a giant waste at this point.
More of a tongue in cheek take on fucking Minnesota by not only matching the player they amnestied Darko for, but also signing Darko
Sean Highkin: It took until July 12th to get to the point where I'm talking myself into Darko as a viable alternative to Brendan Haywood -media guy who tweets about Blazers
Maybe Hickson looked at steve blake, and said "man I could stay at 4 million a year, and keep on getting signed!"
I think it has more to do with hickson thinking he maybe able to up his value next season. If he can continue to play at the same level as the last 19 games; 4 mil is nothing. He would be at least a 8 mil per guy. Maybe he likes it in Portland as well? I really don't know for sure.
Heres JJ Hickson dropping 29 against the Clippers on 3-30-12. Enjoy !
You know, I haven't been keeping up with the ebb and flow of this thread, but I do want to say that, just in the same way that Jeremy Lin went on his 'Linsanity' run, most (if not all) NBA players are capable of exploding for great performances, if given the opportunity. Time, touches, and confidence matter a lot. Also, attitude matters. If you have a player who is capable of exploding like Hickson did in the clip posted above, you should be worried about the tendencies that lead to his inconsistencies more than his raw abilities. On an aside, speaking of breakout performances, does anyone remember the run Ronald 'Flip' Murray went on several years back? I remember posting on this forum when there was a very solid Sonics base, and you could have sworn he was the second coming of Jesus based on their assessments.
I am proud as punch to have played a small part in convincing Olshey to sign Hickson after he read my influential posts on this heretofor unrecognized matter.
