I have no clue what the hell is going on. So Miller/Webster have to clear waivers (7 day wait) no matter what happens? So we have to wait at least 7 days until the wolves can actually have the cap space to offer Batum the contract?

And that's something that has yet to be initiated on Kahn's part ... right?

    Joe Freeman ‏@BlazerFreeman

#Blazers GM Neil Olshey did not indicate whether the teams are engaged in a sign and trade.

    Joe Freeman ‏@BlazerFreeman

At this moment, the #Blazers have not received an offer sheet from Minnesota revealing a deal to sign RFA Nicolas Batum.

the best info I have....this is correct. If someone sees a tweet or article talking about waiving them, I'd be happy to see it.

Just gives us more time to use our cap space. Pretty hilarious actually.

Have to think either Blazers mulling a S&T offer or MIN is getting cold feet about waiving players to making offer they know will be matched

OR, they are just figuring out that they can't really do this deal now because they don't understand the CBA? AND, they can't concentrate over the sound of Olshey laughing at them?

I think that's my favorite part. They have to let three players go to even be able to make the offer, but they know the offer profits them nothing, so they have to balance the opportunity cost of the waivers with the benefit of forcing us to overpay. It seems they're figuring this out.

As far as I know, until we pick up their options, the full amount does not count against the cap. If we do nothing then their options are not picked up and only the guaranteed portion of their contracts count against us.

It's not a waiver, it's a matter of not picking up their options. They do not have fully guaranteed contracts counting against our cap.

I think BFW has been extremely thorough and precise with his citation of why they need to use the waiver process. He could be wrong, but so far nobody has been able to find anything reliable disputing his position.

A non guaranteed contract is still a contract that has to be waived. The only way to avoid the waiver is an ETO, but that's a player option per the sources cited by BFW.

Let's be honest, players don't give a shit about David Kahn's ability to understand the CBA. The only reason they would want to go there (or not?) comes down to 3 things. 1. Chance to win. 2. Quality of the coach. and 3. Money ... and money ... and money.

This is why I'm finding this hard to believe. Can a front office really be that inept? All jokes aside, this is kind of a basic part of their job. If BFW is right and this blows up on them, how in the world can the owner not clean out the front office and start over?

with the first being the chance to win, would you take into consideration the teams ability to bring together quality players?

Not like us small market teams are a vacation destination..

I does make one wonder..but, damn, this has been fun as hell to watch the melt down. I would love to be a sports reporter in the Tpups market, this is just too easy to poke fun at

I'm starting to come around to what RickyBusiness is saying about "team options". If I'm reading this article correctly, the 2012/2013 year on these contracts essentially doesn't exist yet. The team has to exercise the option for the contract to exist for this year, which means there's nothing to "terminate" or "waive". If they decline the option, that would take effect immediately.

I don't think the 7-day waiver period applies here.
