Just out of curiosity what other teams out there have enough cap space to sign Batum if Minni never comes up with an offer? Not saying anyone else would, but who has cap space left?

Houston for sure but they're wanting to use it on a Dwight Howard trade.

Wrong? That's the same thing Jason Quick said.

    Where did you get it?

I assume Brian is mostly going off cbafaq.com and other knowledgeable media.

But Brian, until they release the CBA this Minny cap 7 day crunch is all just fan speculation; you and Storyteller were both very adamant the max Blazers could offer Hibbert was $53M... now Larry Coon updated his FAQ that there were increases to max contracts even with no increases in cap. Those conditions have been part of 2011 CBA all along but us fans never had the specifics documented out until just a few days ago.

Same thing could be going on with unguaranteed portion of waived players salaries.

    It's the opposite. He said:
The CBA says all money, including non-guaranteed money, stays on during the 7-day process....then you get relief after the player clears.

Trying to help, someone asked about it and I had the page still up. I've quit questioning it. That ship has sailed for me.

the 6% raise to the max was a one-time thing that was set up b/c of the shortened season. Nothing had come out about it until the 9th, though there had been rumors. There were also rumors that the cap was going to go to 61M. Obviously that didn't happen. I don't go by rumors, I go by what the CBA and the FAQ says. And Coon (who has the hard-copy CBA and has had it for months) put into his FAQ the waiver requirements.

Look, I've said all day today that if there's a super-secret way that Kahn can make an offer by immediately clearing cap space -- I don't know about it. I've also said that I don't get the NBA League Office transaction feed...if they waived Webster and Miller last week and no one tweeted or wrote about it I wouldn't know that either. But based on the info that's out there and the CBA FAQ interpretations, that's the best I can come up with. :dunno:

Well I hope your right and there isn't any clauses in the CBA we don't know about. This would be an epic fail on the Twolves part. Quick did say over a week ago he never believed the wolves would actually follow through and sign Batum to that offer sheet... Maybe him and Cronin know its impossible for Minny to do the offer sheet for the reasons you've spelled out. They just don't want to let clueless Kahn know its impossible. Maybe Kahn didn't know it was impossible until today.

Somebodies agent forgot to send in the opt in paperwork for his players multimillion dollar contract before so these mistakes have happened.

Or maybe Minnesota told Batum's agent from the get go they would never actually submit the offer sheet but they were willing to do any public posturing necessary to entice the Blazers into a sign and trade.

This whole situation is just so unusual. It's already the July 13th on the east coast, if the TWolves were serious and able to do the Batum offer sheet they could've supposedly signed it on the 11th and our matching window would nearly be over.

By that logic (fear of injury I guess) he also would not choose the QO. Too risky.

Would the trade kicker have to be included in the $46.5M? Does a trade kicker need to fit into available cap space?

I'd imagine Yes, Yes but I'm not certain.

Not until it's actually activated. I think the only caveat is that it can't push a player over the max salary they're supposed to get for that year. When it hits, then the bonus is applied equally across all remaining years.

So for instance, if we trade Nic in his 3rd contract year, he'll get about 3M in trade bonus. This gets applied as a 1.5M cap hit in the 3rd year and a 1.5M cap hit in the 4th year. It also counts in calculating salaries for trade purposes. (Coon 96 explains more)

Dwight Jaynes got tired of the pounding he's taking from BFW and told him to stop yapping and go to bed.
