Does he have ties to Salem? I thought he'd retire in California.

I used to work with a relative of Tex Winter, so I know he has ties to Oregon.

I think Phil Jackson would have been an absolutely horrible choice for this team. Didn't Oshey say he wanted a coach that could teach? The guy was a master at managing large egos. But developing young talent? I just can't see it.

Sloan on the other hand would have taught them how to play the "right way". The players would have hated his style but I can see some logic there. But not Phil.

Not sure what Neil is looking for.

Jackson won't coach any team that doesn't have two super-stars.

Then he'll never coach the Blazers.

I agree that his use of the word "just" in the phrase "just a job offer" was quite odd. But after listening to the interview at the practice facility, my impression was that it was a job offer, and if Sloan had said yes, he would be the coach. That at least shows us Olshey is not stuck on Canales.

That's the way I understood it too. Odd choice of words, but it sounded like the job was Sloan's if he wanted it.

If our starting five was more 'set' I think Sloan would have taken it.

Right now, the starting PG and C are rookies, pending roster moves.

Last seasons GM, survey Mike Malone was the runaway winner as top assistant, how is this a close debate with Neil & Co. if they're looking at up-and-coming assistants?

yeah, this is how I understood it as well, not an application, an offer. He was ready to go to Paul to sign off on it.

No surprise here: Blazers have asked, and been granted permission, to interview Indiana assistant Brian Shaw for their head coach position
