LA, no. J.J., thats debatable. With whats remaining out there I don't see how Scola hurts us in anyway. Super efficient big men are hard to come by. He passes well, gets up and down the floor and has a great "motor" (most overused term in sports these days).

Pretty sure SA is over the cap and won't have a shot at him.

Agree with you on "motor". It is painful to watch Scola run, though - it's almost like Sabas in the old days.

Scola has just such an amazing offensive arsenal. I remember one of those SI polls-of-NBA players that asked who does the most with least, and I'm pretty sure he was the leading vote-getter.

Yes he flops, but he's also a very solid defender. As everyone knows, he outplayed LA in the first-round series we lost to Houston (before they took LA to seven with Yao going down for the last time in the middle).

Best low post game since McHale and "FUCKING AWESOME" are exaggerations.. If you were correct I think he'd be garnering a little more attention/money. He's an above average big, but that's about it. You say it doesn't matter that he's old, but his rebounding, field goal percentage, and already limited defensive ability have already started to decline.

they were a decent bit below the cap before Duncan, the key is have they actually signed his new deal yet?

Now Dallas has gotten Brand (for a poxy $2.1M!) are they also over the cap? That would be my next guess.

And an 18.4 to 15.4 drop in PER over the last two years. He's very much on the decline.

    Chicks dig Scola's mid-range game.

Aren't the blazers trying to have cap space next offseason? 3 years at 4mil per is a good deal for Scola, but its not worth it if it keeps the blazers from signing a big name next offseason. Perhaps I'm confused about how much the blazers have committed for 2013/2014 but if I'm right they should fill out the roster with one year deals.

If the Blazers match Batum we are not going to have much cap space for a FA next year. Scola would be a lot better then anybody we could get with our small cap space.

Adding Scola and Haywood for cheap would be nice assets to have. Scola would be very attractive to teams at the trade deadline if his contract was small. Haywood could give us cheap minutes till Leonard is ready.

Yes and yes, also imagine Scola at the four and LMA at the five , that is a match up nightmare for most teams

This seems to imply he's on par with LA, but Aldridge is a much better offensive player. Scola is also getting older.

If we claim and win, we could not trade him till July 1st of next year. We already have commitments to Hickson and Freeland, so I would be surprised if we make an offer.

My hope is that we win Haywood.

Seconded. While I'm not averse to Scola and think he would work fine here, I think a true center probably makes more sense. Haywood would be a good backup for Leonard (or vice versa?)

Does Haywood fit our "culture"? You've got to wonder at a player his teammates want to fight. (Well, one of them, anyway.)

Did any of you watch Haywood last year? AT BEST, he's a lateral move from Przybilla.

Scola being waived seems weird to me. He's obviously playing at a high level with little injury. I get that he has a somewhat bloated contract; but he's definitely a worthy asset IMO.
