LINKTigers got First Basemen Sean Casey today for a minor league pitcher. They also sent 1B Chris Shelton down to the minor leagues.I love this move. We didn't give up much and we got a Lefty bat to solidify our lineup, and he is no sloach on defense either. I love Shelton, but I think with the experiance and defense Casey brings it was a move that needed to be made.
Ohh I don't like this one bit. Casey was a good pickup, but don't demote Shelton yet. He had a heck of a year so far, and can only get better.
SunnyD the best part of this trade is that fatass shelton doesnt get a spot on the team anymore. He had a great April but in a city of what have you done for me lately he hasnt done sh*t since then. It is an upgrade for sure and its not like we got rid of shelton we can always bring him back. I lovethis move because we get a good feilder (definate upgrade from shelton) and a consistant bat (another thing shelton lacked). So i think Dombroski did a good job so far...hopefully he can get Soriono in the jersey with the old english D.
No, Shelton was hitting .280 in July, people don't realize that. Shelton still had tons of power too. Sean Casey decent, but that shouldn't have made Shelton demoted. Let Shelton play DH at least.
A DH should be able to hit homeruns. Shelton has hit 6 since april and hasnt hit one at home since April 29th. and i would take the career .304 hitter over the guy who is hitting .280 in april. Shelton is the first baseman of the future but we want the championship now and with Casey we have a better chance of doing that.
Casey did prove to be good the first game for us, hitting a huge homer, but I still don't think Shelton should have been demoted. Not yet, at least. I guess Brandon Inge says it helped him find his swing, so it should help Shelton too in Toledo.
