We will most likely match and I think it's a bad idea. 2 years from now we will be regretting this decision. This could get khan fired too. Batum isn't a 12 mil per player. He doesn't have the killer instinct to be a #2 option on a team. I would much rather use that money for a legit #1 or #2 option. Maybe we could match and trade Batum for a legit #1 packaged with a player?
Having the money doesn't guarantee that you get a legit #1 or #2 option. How many legit options are available and fit our window? Iggy? Monta? There isn't a good option, and I'm definitely coming around to the realization that we will never sign a big name free agent with cap space. We just aren't on the list. We will have to draft a Durant or a LeBron before anyone wants to come play for us.
Pretty much. And if you can't sign them, you almost certainly can't trade for that caliber of player, because teams don't let the true superstars get away unless they force their way out.
Having a top-tier coach is all we'd need to attract superstars, but PA likes employees he can keep under his thumb.
Batum or no Batum, these guys were all gone by the start of the season either way. Filling roster spots is not the issue here as we would be filling them either way. Chances are good that Ridnour, Barea, Williams, Wes Johnson and/or Ellington are on their way out also. But those moves will be a part of trade(s) and therefore bringing someone back. But, without making moves with those players and without adding Batum, we only have 3 roster spots open. You have to remember that we already agree to terms with Roy and Shved and will finalize them once we find out about Batum one way or the other.
Love is pretty much an established star. Adelman is pretty much a send tier coach (that's not a bad thing)
I am a huge fan of Love and I love the Wolves. Love is not a #1 option on any team. He's a legit #2 on any team but not a #1. Not a bad thing as there are a number of great players that were not #1 option nor could they have been. We don't have a #1 option right now.
And that is the same issue this blazers team is facing, as Aldridge is not a #1 option and likely never will be. Sadly there aren't enough #1 guys to go around in this league.
Well, the Pistons and Spurs have won championship(s) without a true #1 so it's not the end of the world.
#1 option or no, Love would be a very solid part of a "Big 3" - Love, Rubio, X Real question for you though: It sounds like Webster has been injured for 2 years. Is that the case, what's happened to him, and how is he now?
It's not really surprising with RA though. He coached in Portland, he coached in Sacramento, and now he's coaching in Minnesota. He's never required a big market.
Off the top of my head, the top five (in no particular order) Kevin Love Zach Randolph LaMarcus Aldridge Blake Griffin Dirk Nowitzki I'm probably forgetting someone major, but those are the names that pop into my head.
