Merge if you feel the need to micro manage, mods. Batum would come in at the 10th highest paid SF next season, and pretty much stay there with some dropping off, and some added in in years 2-4. Batum had the 7th best PER, and played in a shitty offense. The more I am looking at this, the more I don't think he is over payed accordingly Name Salary 2011/12 Rashard Lewis $21,136,630 Carmelo Anthony $18,518,574 LeBron James $16,022,500 Paul Pierce $15,333,334 Rudy Gay $15,032,144 Kevin Durant $13,603,750 Andre Iguodala $13,531,750 Luol Deng $12,325,000 Danny Granger $12,215,904 Batum ??? There might be a couple of amnestied guys in there, actually? Still, it gives a good idea of the salary comparisons
I would much rather have Deng than Batum. I just can't believe we are probably going to match Minny's offer sheet. BIG FUCKING MISTAKE!
Why is it a mistake. I'd rather have Batum then everyone paid below him and then half the guys ahead of him except for the obv Deng/iggy/Lebron/KD. What exactly are we going to do with that capspace to get a better player at his position with? We could maybe pull of a lopsided trade for Iggy but philly's gonna want a few pieces back for him. I'd rather have Deng/Iggy now but in 3 years i'd probably rather have Batum then them. Its also not like were looking to make a ruckus in the playoffs next year, maybe not even the year after that. In 2 years I would much rather have a 25/26 Batum then a 29/30 Iggy/Deng.

It really looks like his contract is perfectly placed for his performance range. Hopefully he'll be more of a deal as time goes on, and not less.
This is a flawed thinking though. That's like trying to decide if you want to buy a house and comparing the current market prices to what people were paying for houses two or three years ago. Most, if not all, of those contracts were signed before the new CBA. The rules have changed. We need to get away from the old mindset and start using a new way of thinking in regards to contracts.
All of those are old CBA contracts though, those would all be a different and probably a lot lower under the new CBA
Nah. Big contracts are still being handed out. It will fall right in line with others, maybe slightly more
That is why this is an absurd contract to Batum, this first FA period is going to end up crushing people in the long run because teams are treating it like the old CBA.
This is the first real summer after the CBA, and I don't think most teams have really come to grips with the changes that have been made. They might be seeing things differently in a year or two when they signed someone like Batum for 12 million per year and can't afford to extend one of their young guys or sign new talent.
Exactly. Let's not make the same mistake all the other teams made and try to justify it because it could be worse. In the new CBA, paying a role player over 10 million is a bad idea.
