Man, seeing Romney's record in Massachusetts, I wish he'd run for president in 2004... as a democrat. Republicans are sure getting a shitty republican to represent them.
This document is filled with lies! It states his employment as Co-founder and managing general partner at Bain Capital was from 1984-1999. Everyone knows after 1999 he made it his personal mission to fire as many people and move offshore as many jobs as possible!
To be fair, it was compiled after his 2002 retroactive retirement in 1999. By then the white-out on the computer monitors had dried.
The bottom line is that Mitt Romney was a Republican governor of a state with 11% of its population registered with the GOP. Of course he's going to make Olympia Snowe look conservative. Bill Weld governed the same way. I don't look to what he did in MA as a blueprint for what he would do nationally. I look to his personal beliefs, which are significantly more to the right. If anything, I think he's reticent to show just how conservative he is.
After skimming that document, I don't know how you know what his personal beliefs are. Just do a search in that document for the word "changed" and you'll see all kinds of twists and turns. Does he personally believe in the sanctity of the unborn fetus' life, or a woman's right to choose? Romney Has Been Pro-Choice, Then Not Pro-Choice, Then Pro-Choice Again ....and of course he's now back to Pro-Life. Does he personally believe it's a good idea to have a 10% tax on all private donations? In 2002, Romney proposed installing 10 percent tax on private donations to political campaigns. Does he personally believe it was a good idea to raise taxes on firearms by 400%? “Gun owners [are] upset that the cash-strappedLegislature and Romney administration raised the [firearms license] renewal fee from $25 to $100 in this year’sbudget.” (Lane Lambert, “Gun Permit Renewal Delays Frequent,” The Patriot Ledger [Quincy, MA], 9/17/03) Romney Supported Brady Bill And Assault Weapons Ban, Bragging His Stance Was “Not Going To MakeMe The Hero Of The NRA.” “[Romney] said he will take stands that put him at odds with some traditional ultra-conservative groups, and cited his support for the assault rifle ban and the Brady gun control law. ‘That’s notgoing to make me the hero of the NRA,’ he said. ‘I don’t line up with a lot of special interest groups.’” Romney Praised Massachusetts’ Tough Gun Laws, Vowed Not To “Chip Away At Them” As Governor. “[A]s the GOP gubernatorial candidate in 2002, Romney lauded the state’s strong laws during a debate against Democrat Shannon O’Brien. ‘We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts; I support them,’ he said. ‘I won’t chipaway at them; I believe they protect us and provide for our safety.’”
