I sure hope the Blazers wait until the very final minutes to match; then BAM MUTHER FUCKER! You have no chance on Batum!

Listened to Haynes on the MSP with CIP. He spent 5 minutes trying to explain how he had known about Phil Jackson wanting to join the Blazers' FO, and how the Blazers' FO wanted PJ as coach. He kept going on about how he had this info for quite some time, and he really knew it was legit when Vecsey started pushing it out there. He was really like, "Look at me - I'm legit. In fact, 2 legit 2 quit. Hey hey!"

    It was sad and pathetic.

Well, after he's been burned by Kahn so many times in the last few weeks, he's desperate to validate himself. He just dropped a giant stinking turd yesterday about the Wolves offering Williams + picks and the Blazers turning it down, which was widely disputed by other people with sources. The guy looks really bad right now.

I am secretly hoping for the following to happen

    1. Nic comes for his physical and is honest with Portland about his desire to play in Minnesota

    2. Portland calls Minnesota and says "let's rip up the offer sheet and complete the S&T"

    3. Minnesota balks, thinking they have the upper hand and says no, so Portland reaches out to Courtney Lee and offers him a 2 year deal at whatever our cap space is, and tells Minnesota they will get neither.

    4. Minnesota plays ball and deals us Williams, 1 pick and we sign Lee

Well, Derrick Williams acknowledges it. He says he was told by his agent.

I suppose everything could be coming from the exact same source (Kahn), but that could backfire and create a lot of mistrust between the Minne players and management.

This thread could go on for months and months. He's full of it now, and he'll be full of it in the future.

It won't last forever because I think he'll be fired at some point.

I think Khan may have the last laugh. He may be laughing in the unemployment line, but he'll be laughing. It's a bitch of a contract to pay for Nico. The best face you can put on that deal is that one day, if he really makes progress, he may earn what the contract stipulates. And that trade kicker? It makes him untradable.

I'm a believer in the winner's curse. I say let him go to Minny. We're going to suck next year anyway, let's not get hamstrung by bad contracts.

I will let it go on Friday. That is my forgiveness Fridays. I decided each day of the week should bring a different side of my outstanding personality. Thursday is thinking outside the box Thursdays

If Batum becomes half of what some of us believe he could become, he'll be easy to trade (but at that, why would we want to trade him). And the trade kicker.... as someone here mentioned (assuming they are correct), we have to pay that. You do realize PA is still our GM? I can't imagine he'll have a problem paying that in the right deal. Plus, it decreases each year. In 2 years, it'll be like $3.5 million. And Nick will still be a tender-25.

The contract makes Batum the 9th or 10th highest paid SF next year. He has the 8th best PER of SF's

It would also make him the 10th highest paid SG next year. Also his PER was 8th for SG's

So.... you're saying he's going to be paid relatively comparable to his peers (yes, I know many of those deals were signed before the new CBA)??

And he's still only 23? So one could suppose he'll continue to grow and improve (especially with Nate gone), no?

I see the reasoning behind this argument and frankly it's where my head was at when this whole game of contract chicken started, but after seeing MM break down contracts for 3s around the league I'm less worried about it -- don't get me wrong I'm still worried, but it has a better than 50% chance of being at worst a slight overpay. And with the salary floor and the structure of the rest of their deals it's not that big of a deal in the long term.

Even on the new meds, it has taken everything I have not to explode on the forum and wonder why no one can get this? LOL

he is already worth 11 million a year statistically, if he improves at all it will be gravy...do i wish he was being paid on his rookie deal for superior production? sure i do...but i also realize that the nba is a business

and as far as the trade rumors go, if the blazers were offered dwill and turned them down, it means we love nic, and he gets that

from minnys perspective, they like batum more, but poor dwill is still there, like a cuckold...hes gonna suck this year

    This.

And a lot of teams have their star player(s) at max deals. LMA signed for below the max when we extended him a few years ago. I know it wasn't waaayyyy under the max, but ultimately, the fact that he would be maxed as a FA now, but wasn't then, does help us out a little bit in the long-term.

I got it (which is why I spelled it out again for everyone).

I don't get why anyone is balking at this. Is this the best deal in the world? Hell no. I wish Batum signed for minimum. But this contract does not concern me in the least - I'd be concerned if we let him walk.
