I know you didn't ask me, but I think he is a 9-10 mil per player at best.

Like I said, it's situational. If we were looking at locking up that final piece, I'd pay him that MIN contract, and do it happily. However, unless Lillard becomes an All-Star and we have another player become an almost All Star (Batum being the most likely candidate), then I we're going to be mediocre at best. In that scenario, I'd give him a five year deal (we can offer him that extra year) averaging around $8MM annually.

It's really hard to argue Nic shouldn't get at least $10M per based on other players and their contracts

    Just the way it is

    ahh reading fail, my bad

so you think he overpaid by maybe 3 million a year? and is this based on his past production, his estimated future production, or your hatred for the free market?

    and PER

    and winshares

and the fact that the blazers will have locked up his early prime, when he is still likely to improve

    its a fair deal

people dont want fair deals though, they want clear wins, and want to pay people drastically below their market value apparently

Nice lineup. 2013 Lottery Pick is my new favorite Blazer. I love that guy! ;)

Nic is going to get paid exactly what he should get paid.

It's not a matter of he should get x dollars, there's a process for RFAs. Go out and sign a contract and you'll get paid that amount by either the offering team or the matching team. This process is sometimes hard on teams, but usually I think it's harder on players. Very few players get offer sheets. Nic did, good for him. It's understood that offer sheets are always more than a player is "worth", otherwise there would be no incentive to not match.

I don't blame Nic at all... but it's not a defense that the Blazers should do something just because other teams do. Most teams don't win championships or even make it past the first round of the playoffs each year. Most teams fire their coaches and GMs pretty frequently.

To all of those arguing that Nic's contract is fair and/or a good deal for the Blazers: would you say the same thing if it were a max contract?

In my view, Batum's contract isn't set by the market as a whole. It would be easier to swallow if a lot of good, smart teams were pursuing him.

Instead his value is being set by one of the worst franchises in NBA history with an awful GM.

Your pizza delivery guy tell you this? This is all we really know. So I don't really think you can say for certain.

And I am one of Haynes' biggest haters. When he was tearing it up at draft time, I said he sucked and caught a lot of flack for it. I just don't think any of us has any sort of clue on this.

Also who the hell would replace him at sf? Opportunity cost works both ways.
