Spoke to Minnesota GM David Kahn and he says they're prepared for whatever happens when it comes to #Blazers matching Nicolas Batum.

If we match, I really hope Nic lives up to the contract. At this point, I maintain that we should let him go, because I think we're not a deep playoff team if he's one of your three best players and at that salary, he should be at least your third best player.

 

Guess it really depends on how you look at it. If we still have an opprtunity to have 15.9 mil free next summer; then it's really a moot point. Also, Batum is a great wing defender and probably our deadliest eye from the perimeter. As much as I don't like over-paying; we still might be in good shape.

At this point that is how I feel too. Like you, I was against overpaying Batum, but it doesn't look like it is going to cripple us at this point or affect our cap situation that much and we could still feasibly pursue a high paid FA next summer if we move a contract or two.

 

We have quite a bit of cap space now if Blazer's match. We are in good shape to make an offer to Lee or another sg or sf. We also have the tools and cap space to make a trade for that player.

 

Plus, you need to hope that an MVP-level player is even available the year you luck out in the lottery. Or that your #1 overall pick isn't an aloof doofball who has styrofoam in his knees instead of cartilage.

You guys are going to overpay for Batum. I guess that could be an accomplishment to a division rival?

I would rather see Batum on the Wolves than not but it is completely up to the Blazers either way.
