Didn't you give up half your assets in clearing the cap space for the Batum offer?

I guess Ridnour, Wes Johnson, Derrick Williams, and JJ Barea are assets, but as you're finding out, Derrick Williams may be worth less than some think - and Wes Johnson is not that great. Don't really see anyone wanting to take on salary for mediocre players, though.

When Batum is matched, Kahn is going to sign a unicorn to an offer sheet.

Every player that we got rid of for this deal was on their way out either way. We have the Memphis 1st rounder still also and we have cap space.

Yeah, Nic is overpaid. No doubt about it. His agent did a great job using Kahn to drive up his price, and Olshey couldn't risk letting Nic go because there is nothing behind him, and replacing his production would cost $8m or so on another FA, at the very least.

Portland passing on Barnes at #6 made it obvious that Nic was either going to be matched or traded. I assume no decent trades surfaced, and the Blazers couldn't risk letting Batum go while getting nothing but cap space in return.

What Portland fans should be thankful for is LMA's reasonable contract somewhat softens the blow of Batum's new deal, because if LMA was an RFA last summer, he'd have received a max offer from someone.

Well I guess since his cap space is no longer imaginary, it would make sense to use it on an imaginary creature.

It's been proven that the contract actually isn't an overpay for Batum, even though it's somewhat based on the old CBA, but teams are still giving out money as such.

Even if we did overpay, it's by about 1-1.5 million, which isn't all that bad, considering he is 23, has loads of potential, is a good 3 point shooter, has the tools to play 2-3 and can guard 1-3.

That's not what I'm saying. We will be overpaying for him also if you don't match. Fact is though that if we weren't in this thing, you may have been able to sign him for cheaper. Can you argue that point?

There is garbage left for that cap space, and Memphis' pick will be in the 20s, most likely.

    Great assets there in Minny.

Well the good thing is we can wait and possibly sign Lee right from under your nose; since your cap hold won't give you the opportunity to. Then we sign or overpay for Batum. This is called the "double whammy!"

What I do love is Minny signing Roy to try and make up for Khan's complete failure taking Foye over him. Sadly you have the "run down version"; but he has heart!

Not knowing who else out there wanted him, it's pretty tough to say.

Kahn may not be all the great of a GM but your GM isn't looking all that great right now either.

I'm aware - I'm also aware that Miller and Webster were two of your bigger trading chips due to the nature of their salaries - and then the whole amnestying Darko thing.

I'm also aware that Philly wanted Miller and Webster for Iggy - considering they wanted to shed salary - and they are set at the primary positions that you can offer.

Yes, you have Memphis 1st rounder - which will be about pick 22ish territory. Once again, not very attractive - as you found out in the Batum negotiations.

lol, Kahn didn't take Foye over Roy. That was before Kahn's time. The Roy signing has nothing to do with making up for any failure, it has a lot to do with Adelman choosing his players.

Lopsided trades are still out there, but chances are with the new rules in the CBA where salaries don't have to be as close as they once were, it may not be the biggest advantage in the world. If they want something of value (let's say Igoudala for instance) they're going to have to offer that cap relief and a player or two of interest, likely Williams and somebody else without demanding teams take back dead contracts.
