How many coaches are out there that have had the success D'Antoni has had? (Not Shaw) And how many of them are a perfect fit with Damian Lillard and the rest of the team?
Can someone tell me what Phil Jackson's rol would be as President? I still don't know what thefuck Larry Miller was supposed to be doing, but it didn't seem like he was doing it.
I don't feel like getting too deep into it again, but suffice it to say this discussion is a well traveled road. Personally I have no idea what he'd add besides a name. Others I'm certain will tell you differently.
he had success in one franchise, and their teams choked when things matter most. he wasn't great in Denver, and he wasn't great in New York. If you took Steve Nash away from the Suns, and he wouldn't have had success there either.
If I had to predict, Paul Allen is trying to figure out a way to get out of this Phil Jackson situation. I just don't believe Allen would want to add someone that will challenge or make it tougher for him to make basketball personal decisions. Or tell him what he needs to do to his roster to win. In the end, I just don't think he will ever take Jackson seriously.
I am not for sure how Phil Jackson is going to help fix the Comcast problem or revamp the Rose Quarter. I would prefer our president to let Oshey run the team and put his/her energy into making the Blazers a better product.

Losing to the SAS 3/4 years in the playoffs (2 of them being championship years for the Spurs) isn't really choking. The other year he lost to a damn good Mavericks team that probably should have won the finals. Last year there he lost in the 1st round, and that was after Kerr traded for O'Neal and totally changed the way the Suns could play offense.
You know as far as success goes. Steve Nash was always a pretty good player. But he didn't become excellent until he united with D'antoni. As far as I'm concerned D'antoni and that offense turned him into a perennial MVP. As for the New York situation, there were many, many distractions and too many for him to be successful. Had management listened to him and traded Melo to NJ for D. Williams. He probably would have turned that situation around.
In the end it pretty much comes down to what talent you have, and how good you are at maximizing that talent. I think D'Antoni would do a fantastic job maximizing the talent of the players currently on Portland's roster. He turns Lillard into a surefire all-star imo.
Other than Sloan, I can't think of a better guy to coach our young point guard. Just look at his resume with point guards.
The trouble with D'Antoni teams is that while they're fun to watch, it's all cotton candy because the guy has zero interest in demanding accountability on the defensive end. He's this generation's Donnie Walsh minus the bat-shit crazy lineups.

I don't know, I think this is overstated. Of course, I can't prove it. And the only way to prove it is to hire him on, let him show you that his way can be successful. With that said, if defense is a concern and it is for me. Hire a really good defensive guru. A guy that comes to mind and a guy that has been linked to him and this current general manager is Mike Dunleavy. Hire Dunleavy to come in and construct the defense. If I had to guess, his days as a head coach are just about done. And I think he would serve perfectly as an assistant coach/defensive coordinator. I think he enjoyed his time in Portland and I remember correctly he still owns a home here.
