I just read about that: can we get in that and get Varejao? Orlando would be rebuilding, so maybe they wouldn't be as attached to Varejao as Cavs were. But then again, they clearly prefer him to Bynum... Leonard and Freeland for Varejao? I'd do that deal...
I would not give up Leonard just yet for another 230 lb PF. Especially one that is 30. I wanted a SG with the #11 pick, but we still need some size.
I'm trying to be as unbiased here as possible and I'm sure I'll get flamed, but I think its a fair deal all around. Orlando wants picks and cap relief for Dwight, they've made that clear. Cleveland can give them that, Houston can give them that. It was leaked tonight that Dwight does not want to play in Houston and would not re-sign, so its up to Houston to convince him to stay or give up the farm for a one year rental. Bynum has said he would test free agency and go back to the Lakers, or look to sign in Cleveland, Houston, or Dallas. He really like Byron Scott and Kyrie Irving and him could make a great combo to build around. Bynum, while he has a shitty attitude and has had some injuries, is still the 2nd best C in the league and probably the best offensive center in the league. Its not like the Lakers' are giving up chump change for Dwight. It'll be interesting to see, if this happens, how Dwight's back has healed and if his heart is really in LA. I know his girlfriend is from LA and he spends a lot of time in the offseason out there with her.
Hey, I know we (Memphis) have it just as hard as Utah, Portland, and Minnesota, but how have we fucked with any of them? If anything, we're the reason the Wolves have a future right now. We handed them Kevin Love and Mike Miller for essentially nothing. (A bit of a non sequitur here, but everyone who talks about that draft-day trade always says "at the time it looked like Mayo would be twice the player Love would be... hindsight is 20/20, etc." However, I remember personally taking a beating on this forum for saying the Grizz shouldn't have traded Love and Miller for Mayo on draft night. That's the bitch of evaluating a prospect; by the time the player has realized their potential, everyone has forgotten your evaluation.) Anyway, regardless of how dominant the Lakers will be with Howard (that's something to talk about when it actually happens), I'm just upset that the Cavs are rearing their ugly head again. I really wanted to see Bynum go to Houston. How great would it have been to see Lin and Bynum struggle in Houston and all of the bitching and moaning that would have come from it? Bynum blaming Lin and Lin blaming Bynum as the Rockets coast into the lottery... I hope that could still happen.
You fucked us by signing Darius Miles to a 10 day contract when you really had no need of him and hardly played him. It was also pretty obv the guy was toast. That 10 day contract cost us 8 mill in cap space that summer.
FUCK THE LAKERS! okay now that I got that out of my system, its not a bad deal for any of them, its just annoying to see a HoF go to the Lakers again. Its just so annoying that the big market teams have the leverage because players want to play their and the small teams lose there stars to the big market. Even if you get lucky enough to get MVP talent in the draft, in 8 years you lose them because you don't have good talent knocking on your door to come play with you so you really can't screw up with any decision/draft pick in that time frame or your team won't be in contention for a title and the chance of your star leaving becomes higher. It really feels like 24 NBA teams are just feeder teams for the top 6 teams.

I think karma caught up with us though, because after Darius Miles helped us to an impressive 24 win season, our dumbass ex-owner wound up making us draft Hasheem Thabeet over Tyreke Evans, who played his college ball in Memphis, because our owner at the time, who knew nothing about basketball, saw one workout with the 7'2"er and insited the team draft him. That should be sufficient payback for Darius Miles...
Preach! It frustrates me to no end watching the best players in the league leave their original teams and gravitate towards big market teams. (I don't understand how Chris Paul never caught any flack for his trade demands with the Hornets, compared to how LeBron James got raked over the coals.) Anyways, looking at how Los Angeles got where they are now though, the only things that are significantly diffent from the Kobe and Shaq era are the additions of Pau and Bynum. Pau was a result of Memphis strangely deciding to trade their best player in franchise history to LA to clear cap room and save money (the same year that Jerry West was leaving the organization... coincidentally). I get that Marc Gasol is considered to be just as valuable, if not more, than Pau Gasol these days, but at the time, he was a complete afterthought throw-in. The deal was essentially cutting Pau for cap space on Memphis' end and throwing Pau Gasol to the Lakers in the process. As for Bynum, the Lakers just had to be fortuitous enough to have Bynum land in their laps in the lottery. I was personally a huge critic of Bynum at the time, and I still am, but it was never over his talent. At the time, everyone was doubting his intelligence, work ethic, etc., and the Lakers really took a chance on him. The fact that their gamble paid off might land them Dwight Howard. That's their doing and is in no way a result of being a "big market team." So while it'll get under my skin if the Lakers are able to assemble perennial championship contenders, I'd be more upset over their several-year old acquisition of Gasol than their recent legitimate trade offers involving Bynum, who they actually drafted themselves, in the late lottery. All things considered, they're really building a contender in a more legitimate way than teams like the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, or New York Knicks.
