I'm a Babbitt fan but dude has some serious work to do if he wants to be more than a "floor spreader."

It just dawned on me, numbers and analytics aside, I hate watching Babbitt play

Aren't most shooters who come off the bench streaky?

Babbitt was only shooting 3's last year, and was one of the league leaders. I would categorize that as being a very effective shooter. Again I don't see him getting a lot of minutes based on his other deficiencies, but give credit where credit is due, the guy can shoot the long ball.

Does he need to be more than a "floor spreader", though?

He doesn't need to, but it'd certainly be nice.

It would be nice, but more than likely that will be his role. A role that a lot of teams, depending on the offense they run, like to have in their offense. His man will not be helping out on any double teams if Luke is sitting out 24 feet from the basket. But again we are discussing a 3rd team bench player.

I agee, I do thinkhe'd have a much better chance having a consistent role if he improved his team defense, if not his individual defense as well.

Yes, yes I do think Babbitt sucks - big time.

Why? I've watched these summer league games very closely. Here's what I've found:

He doesn't play defense, which results in
his man scoring - a lot
his man getting assists, because LB needs help
his man getting fouls - on LB and on help defenders
He doesn't rebound well. People says he does, but remember he's playing PF
    His transition defense is atrocious.
He doesn't really care that his defense is bad, so he won't improve.
I'm sure there's more, but hopefully you get the idea

LB can make up for these sins by hitting 45% on 3s. However, on nights where he's missing, he's just killing the team.

Last point: Here's what you want on a championship team:
    Big 3
Role Players who can defend + shoot the 3
Role Players who can defend + rebound

If you're not a great 1-on-1 individual defender you can make up for it by being a good team defender (See Steve Kerr)

Babbitt doesn't fit any of these roles, and likely never will.

If our team really starts to suck this year, he's the kind of guy you can give a lot of minutes to, have him run up some gaudy shooting numbers, and then trade him for a guy who helps you win. So there's that.

Kind of like what we probably should've done with Rudy after his rookie season.

Absolutely agree, but then again you and I are thinking like a GM, not a coach.

Hmm, I think he could add more to his game, but he'd probably stick around the league for a while as a spot up shooter. I'm rooting for him.
