They want to talk long-term deal with Taj Gibson, reports Aggrey Sam at CSNChicago.com.

They better. Or else some team will offer him a $5M/$5M/$15M contract and he'll end up walking or S&T.

The Bulls have full Bird Rights on Gibson, so if Gibson becomes a RFA, the Bulls can match any offer and that goofy Arenas provision doesn't apply...think the Hibbert situation.

Other than that, you couldn't be more right. The new CBA was intended to bring fiscal sanity to the process, and while it's still early, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I knew about the bird rights. I was making the point that he might be offered a deal the Bulls wouldn't want to match.

I thought you did, but wasn't sure about others. Sometimes when you choose to "fire for effect," you mislead less knowledgeable posters...then they mislead others who mislead others. Pretty soon, half the world is misled. I didn't want you to have to live with that responsibility.

Well, the strategy for effing with a team's salary cap has been laid out crystal clear. We did it to get Brad Miller, under a different set of rules, way back when. Hope Houston is happy.

I'm trying not to be overly pessimistic but when I see these news leaks about amnestying Boozer or re-signing Gibson I think anyone who believes them is nuts.

The Bulls have lied to us, most recently when they said they would retain Asik. They will lie to us in the future. And there's a 99% chance, they're lying to us right now.

    We will keep Gibson.

As for amnesty boozer, too many of the Bulls media talk about it as fact. Not this year, maybe next season, but definately the season after that.

Friedell and Johnson both talk about it all of the time. And I believe McGraw has mentioned it once or twice.

Think bottom line. If it costs money to keep Boozer, they'll amnesty him.

Agree on both counts, though a lot depends on what Gibson and his agent are looking for. There's some crazy stuff going on out there.

The Bulls will need to do something to open up the full MLE for Mirotic, probably in 2014. Since Mirotic is projected as a PF, that's when the Boozer amnesty makes sense.

    Think bottom line.

It may never be profitable for the Bulls to amnesty Boozer.

After the 2013/2014 season, he'll be a $16.8M expiring contract that can be traded for players or let it expire.
