Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? Sky HookNow that I think about it......The only low-post player that uses anything close to that is Elton Brand. How come everybody abandoned the skyhook?
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? Because it's an old-school move. I doubt people would want to try to perfect the sky hook when they can just use other more effective moves.
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? It is a good move, but it takes awhile to get good at. Like playofthegame said, it can get blocked more easily now. Just might as well do an up-and-under move in the post.
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? Do you know hard it is to block a hook shot without fouling the player? More players need to start using this more often, It will always be an effective way to score.
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? I think it would take to long for them to learn the effective skyhook. It is outdated, and there are other moves post players choose to use like the drop step, up and under, posting up, etc..

If you are around the same height, than yea it is near impossible to block. When I play with my friends, no one of them are taller than me, so I use the hook all of the time and they can't block me. But when half of them use it, I can easily block them. It all depends on height and how you use it.
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? If you use your back hand to do the skyhook, and have your other hand in front of your body then it is damn near impossible for the defender to block it if he is standing in front of you.
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? This may surprise some of you but in the summer league Andrew Bynum was utilizing the Sky-hook a few times down low.Bynum is more of a power player but it was nice to see Kareem teaching him more things than he taught Olowokandi.
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? yeah i thought andrew bynum was learning it and used it a few times because of what kareem was teaching him
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? Players don't do it because it is arguably one of the hardest shots to hit, just like Tony Parker's little teardrop runner in the lane. In order to do it successfully, you need to have correct footwork, full extension of arm, and have to be of large enough size to make sure it doesn't get blocked. It is very rare a player knows the fundementals and has the willingness to stray away from practicing the high flying dunks and jump shots rather than one of the best low post moves of all time.
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>they will get blocked nowadays</div>I don't really get that at all, how so? If you put some arch on the sky hook it's pretty much an unstoppable shot, in order for a defender to block that they would have to pretty much be on top of the player and 99% of the time it would be a foul. I think it still could be an affective shot but basketball has clearly changed. For one it's a challenging shot to learn and it's out of fashion (as weird as that sounds).
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? As the game has changed, alot of moves have faded away. The jump hook is a highly effective move, but you just don't see young players learning it anymore. One guy that has a pretty nice sky hook is Patrick O'Bryant. Al Jefferson also tends to use a little baby hook alot.
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? i think it has evolved into the jump hook.... it is quicker to get off you need less room, still hard to block
Re: Why Don't We See the SkyHook? We don't see the SkyHook, because it takes almost a few years of dedication to master it. Once a player becomes quick at doing it, it's an excellent move to use. People are saying "It will be blocked".Well, have you guys watched how Abdul-Jabbar used the move? Turned to other side and hooked it in.If you dunk, to defend it, most of the time opposing players will foul you. What if the player is bad at foul shots? Players who use hook shots are usually big men, and when you compare smaller players to big men, big men are the ones who are worse at foul shots.
