(CBS News) CBS News has learned that the NCAA will announce what a high-ranking association source called "unprecedented" penalties against both the Penn State University football team and the school.

"I've never seen anything like it," the source told correspondent Armen Keteyian.

NCAA President Mark Emmert will make the announcement Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the organization's headquarters in Indianapolis.

The penalties come in the wake of the independent report by former FBI Director Louis Freeh that chronicled repeated efforts by four top Penn State officials, including former football coach Joe Paterno, to conceal allegations of serial child sex abuse by Jerry Sandusky over a 14-year period.

The NCAA had been awaiting the school's response to four key questions pertaining to the sex abuse scandal, including issues involving institutional control and ethics.

I expect the penalties will actually be slight, and this is just hype to prevent a public backlash.

Of more concern to me is the lack of prosecution of the people who should be joining Sandusky in jail simply because they are 1%ers.

My guess is that the NCAA is going to move Beaver Stadium to Corvallis.

Maybe the "Death Penalty". Miami is supposed to get that as well.

I suspect the NCAA will force Penn State to post a picture of Greg Oden's cock on their page for the 2012-2013 season. I mean, nothing's worse than that.

According to Canzano, he's hearing that they are going to get something "worse" than the death penalty.

    Hmm...

    70 scholarships lost

Vacated wins back to 1998, which will reflect on Jo Pas record

I get all that except the fine. The NCAA is rolling in cash.

The football team is dismantled for a period of years. Then, if the school chooses to, after the timeframe they can build a new football program.

they don't get the money. it goes to organizations that help victims of sexual abuse, or something like that. I read that they specified that the organization cannot be a part of Penn State (so if they have a similar program, which they will, it will have to get funded with additional money and not the 60M).

Goes to programs outside Penn State for sexual abuse. Also heard from someone that this will also end up in civil court now costing the university $100's of millions more for the families

To show the greatest of the coach, the sanctions only dropped Paterno to 12th all time in wins. That's still pretty damn impressive

Why wouldn't their stats go with them? It's an NCAA DIV stat, so that would seem to encompass the NCAA DIV they are playing in

How can you pass, rush or catch a winning touchdown when according to the record books the win never happened?

Just kidding, I'm sure their stats count and will transfer.
