Stotts is the former head coach in Atlanta and Milwaukee and the current assistant in Dallas. Viewed as an offensive mind.

Clifford was last an assistant in Orlando. He has been groomed under both the Van Gundy brothers

The fact that Kaleb is maybe the most appall ... er appealing name on that final four list tells you all you need to know about the next coach of the PTB:

Turner has been an NBA assistant for 16 years, the past 2 w/Phoenix. He was in Portland from 1996-2000 and also served in Houston and Sac

Turner probably runs an Adelman type offense, so he would be my first choice. Then have Kaleb groomed under him a bit.

I could live with that. I remember C-Webb gushing to Olshey about Turner during a courtside interview at Summer League. A bit of foreshadowing perhaps?

I don't think Kaleb is ready, but I won't have a huge issue with him. I'd better not see one single set that Nate ran though

Yuck, yuck, and yuck. If those are the options with Malone and Shaw out there, I think we should just go with no head coach and let the players run wild.

I'm totally fine with Kaleb if he gets a very strong, and mostly new, group of assistants behind him.

We're not going to make the playoffs this year; good head coaches are seemingly always available (it's not like this years is a banner year or bumper crop). If Kaleb succeeds, you've got yourself a cheap head coach. If he flounders, the season was a learning experience anyway.

This also plays into Olshey's MO: being the good guy and helping out a buddy. Good will built up with Kaleb's agent will be good will to spend in two years when we're ready to make major moves.

Young players, young coach, no expectations, and hopefully lots of offensive fun.

    Oh, and scrappy defense. :ghoti:

Has there ever been a rookie player-coach in the NBA? If not, let's make Damian Lillard the first!

I'd probably choose Kaleb of that bunch and the reason why: Tim Grgurich

    WTF? No Shaw or Malone?

Who the fuck is running this show?

    BRING BACK NATE!! :MARIS61:

But really..... why are we only looking at career assistant coaches? If this is our final pile, go with Kaleb - at least the players endorse him. Maybe we can get some strong assistants around him??

If Kaleb gets the offer for the job, we'll have offered the current job to three people (at least that we know of):

Phil Jackson, Jerry Sloan, and Kaleb Canales.

One of these things is not like the other.... And I'm not referring to the fact Kaleb is related to HCP.

Cannoli looks like a long-shot to succeed, but the chances of this team having a lot of success in the short run (even with a really good coach) are pretty damned slim anyway, so there's not a lot of harm in hiring the, cheap, popular, incumbent, interim guy ... for now.

If anything, I'll feel kind of bad for Kaleb if he gets the job, because I think he's being setup to fail. If he were given 4 or 5 more years to be groomed as a lead assistant he might actually be ready to take the reins and be a really good head coach, but right now seems too soon.

I LOVE the effort, but cannoli's are perfect in every way and should never be used as a derogatory term

The reasoning has crossed my mind as well. But I am not sure PA would feel good about that. I love Grgs and what he offers and how loyal he is to his friends.

But I think he was in the wrong when he sued the Blazers for the months he refused to work. I get that in his mind he works for the head coach and when the head coach was fired he has the right to leave too. But the head coach was fired, Grgs on the other hand technically quit. I know if was the off season, but none-the-less not showing up to work for the last few month of his contract and suing over not getting paid for it, is technically in the wrong. I certainly don't hold anything against him, but do you think Paul Allen will let byegones be byegones? Paul Allen?

I wouldn't mind Kaleb with Grgs and an extremely seasoned former NBA head coach as an assistant. One that liked motion offense

Here's the problem with having Canales as the HC; I want a coach that's going to help Lillard grow and teach him how to be the best version of himself. I'm not convinced that Canales is the best man for that job. I was really hoping to have a new system and a new coaching staff. I don't want Nate McMillan light. I thought he looked pretty shitty last year.

Why are we doomed to be coached by a bunch of second-rate schmucks?

Just imagine how good Lillard would have been in Summer League if he hadn't been coached by Canales.
