Was reading Page 2 on ESPN. Some people in connecticut put some kinda thing about the School Board putting in a rule that if a HS football team wins by more than 50, the coach is suspended 1 game. This is a good thing. That's unsportsmanlike. Now, to kobe.http://www.nba.com/games/20060122/TORLAL/boxscore.htmlJanuary 22. In front of about 19 thousand people, Kobe did his thing. First thing: 2 assists. Good job, that's probably more than usual.Next: What was the score? 122-104. that's 18. And even if they'd won by 1, it would be a long 1. They really blew toronto out, because once kobe started going off, the lakers stopped playing D, otherwise TOR wouldnt have that many points. Now, does Kobe really need that 81? No. Like in Connecticut, the NBA should have a rule of unsportmanship. The game was over easily at 4 minutes left, when kobe had 60 something. So stop. Just run down the clock, like football. But no, Kobe's convinced he can get 40 points in 4 minutes. Go for it, douche bag.Does being number TWO really matter? TOR is a total crap team, don't rub it in. They gave CP3 his first TD, LeBron became the youngest ever to score 50 on THEM... and now this? For what?On a Sunday too. I don't believe in God, but some do. Kobe runs high on unsportsmanship, on GOD'S DAY. Ridiculous. And he gets praised. Those officials should have called the game sooner. Pointless to play on. It was obvious to see TOR wasnt even going to bother playing D or coming back, so just stop. The praise coming on a Sunday further shows that people are fake believers. Or at least in the City of Gold they are.People may say it was amazing, but it wasn't. It was unsportsmanlike, selfish, against Toronto, on a Sunday and pointless. His teammates should have been furious. Kobe is the epitamy of anti-team. America praises him for that? Proof that America is all about individuals. 2004 Olympics were truthful. Just a bunch of individuals. 2 teammates got over 10 points that game, and only 6 besides Kobe even scored, half of those not even getting more than 3 points. Mihm had 12, and I'm guessing those were putbacks off Kobe's 18 misses. Odom had 8, I'd imagine those were putbacks too, as he had 10 boards. My boy Smush got in 13 before Kobe realized it, good job Smush.Phil Jackson should have been suspended a game. I'm some of you will say "this isnt HS football, you twat", but it's sports. Be courteous, at least in public. Kobe just makes enemies by pulling sh*t like this. In front of 19 thousand people, probably a few thousand kids, Kobe taught how NOT to play a team game. Go for it all by yourself, team second. Good job, glad you're a role model for millions of children.
So, when Kobe scores 62 points in 3 quarters against Dallas, then sits out the fourth, he is criticized for not playing the fourth quarter. Then, when he scores 81 points against Toronto, he's criticized for scoring too much?I don't get it...
People are just stupid I guess...Something-to-Say... Have something, SMART to say. This is old news. People have disscussed it. Kobe Bryant, after he realized how much he was scoring, was routing the team. His own team was slowing down because of him. So, what does he do? He keeps on going! You see a record, it's within reach, then go for it! Don't say you wouldn't do it if you were in Kobe's position, unless you're extremely humble. And you, do not seem humble, from what I see in your posts.

Just to to let you know, everything you've said in this thread is skewed. As one person said [forgot who it was], kobe wasn't playing against the raptors. He was playing against all time legends. He was playing against the MJ's and Baylor's. Do you think David robinson stopped against the clippers and though "gosh, your being selfish, stop scoring". He went into that game with the thought of winning the scoring title. If i was at that game i wouldn't ponder to myself about him being selfish, i would be grateful that i saw someone scoring 70. These things don't happen to often.Secondly, you do know that those bums only started playing defense once kobe started scoring? Kobe's scoring was a neccesity for us to win, it isn't like were the pistons who can afford to lose one game. The whole team was flat that day and the only course of action we had was kobe. And he delivered. After getting us the lead, that's kobe marking in history. The 81 point game is something most people will look at in 30 years and say "Yeh, i watched Kobe drop 81". Kobe already showed sportmanship by willingly staying out against dallas, the game was still in the balance and kobe kept on delivering. If kobe did come out of the game, the raptors most likely would've caughten up because the other lakers didn't turn up that day. And if he did come out, some idiot like you would call him selfish for robbing us of another 80 point game just like he did against dallas Thirdly, kobe tought how not to play a team game? Wtf are you talking about? HISTORY. Those kids will grow up and say "I saw the 2nd greatest preformance ever". There's no ifs or buts on this issue. There's no selfishness here. It's HISTORY. Kobe created history on january 22nd and as fans of basketball we should be grateful.People from other boards have warned me of your stupidity and it's coming through again.
The Raptors were once up by 18 Kobe caught them up and blew them out with his scoring you cant even says hes hunelfis he just wants to win thats his goal to suceed

If anyone of us were in his shoes, we all woudl have wanted to play the 4th quarter, and if you deny it your full of sh*t
I'm not a Laker fan, so Im not going to go on this huge thing to defend Kobe from this thread, but that is bullsh**. When you are on a scoring streak, you're not going to stop. He was making history. It's just a dumb thing to say that he should have stopped, and it shows your ignorance.Second of all, the score was pretty close for a reason. Don't speculate if you didn't even watch the game. It was in LA in Pacific time so I only got to watch the 1st half of it, but I remember that the Raptors had a pretty comfortable lead at halftime, we were up by a lot. That's why it was a close score, not because the Lakers didn't play defense
why do people hate kobe so much? i mean who really cares? he scored 81 points! it has nothing to do with your life! get over it
i'm down for the occasional Kobe hate, but STS you're just being stupid. That's just pure hate with no reasoning. i mean, how can you honestly bash kobe for doing that? and for the record, Toronto was winning big before Kobe went off. get your facts straight you idiot.
I really wish we could have seen what you had to say after Kobe scored 62 and sat out the fourth. "He's so selfish, he robbed all those fans of a possible record breaking game".
I don't really care that he got 81 points. Don't hold the guy back just because he isn't "getting enough assists to make it ok." In the game Kobe scored 62 points in 3 quaters, he had zero assists. No one talks about that. Having zero assists is a lot worse than having two. So if this really is a problem, people would be complaining about that game. scoring 62 points in three quaters without getting an assist is a better arguement than the 81 point game. So this just makes me feel like people are mad Kobe got 81, they aren't actually trying to debate it as being "unsportsman like" or "bad for NBA's image" they just care that Kobe scored 81 points. No one has the right to be mad about Kobe's 81 points except for his teammates and the Laker fans. And if they aren't mad, then who cares.About the "50 point rule in football." That is retarded. Scoring 50 points isn't unsportsman like. What is unsportsman like is how coaches are leaving in their starters and racking up the score to make their team look better.

Well we obviously did shut him down, we beat him...About the 50%. Well, as I stated (you would know if you'd used hooked on phonics), it was the RAPTORS. they are a ridiculously poor defensive team. Hell, Brian Scalabrine probably got his contract because somebody watched a game wehre he played the Raptors. And stop saying he had a chance to get 100 points, you look dumber than george bush had he been shot by cheney. There was a 0% chance he would get 90, let alone 100. In 20 years people won't say "yeah, go kobe, 81!!!!" No, they'll say "WILT THE fu*kin STILT IS STILL STANDING". There was no chance at kobe scoring 100 or even close.
