Is this 1972? Tape Delaying live sporting events, and especially the opening ceremonies of the fucking Summer Olympics? You have about 3000 goddamn cable channels, and you can't flip one of them to a live feed?

    Fuck. You.

I used to be upset at the non-live broadcasts. Then I noticed that I don't give a shit.

It's a beauty pageant and a daytime soap opera all wrapped into one. And I dont' care about that stuff at all, let alone whether it's live or recorded.

I care about basketball a bit, I guess, and that's about it.

I know that my gf cares, and I know that she's going to have an opening ceremonies party... that she couldn't have, I'm guessing, if it weren't tape-delayed. I think that the people that care about what's showed by NBC could not care less whether it's live or not.

I watched the US women's soccer match live this morning on the old Versus channel.

4-2 USA beat France on the first day of real Olympic competition. I'll be in Chicago all of next week, so the 'primetime' I'll get will be 5pm here.

I'll be sure to post any and all spoilers in this thread. :)

Plus, the NBC family of TV channels are going to have live events - NBC's sports channel had the women's soccer live this very morning... It's just that NBC is going to have a primetime show with tape delayed events so people who work for a living can watch. They probably want ratings for whatever reason.

Well I don't have a TV so it doesn't make a difference for me.

I can't stand tape-delay anything. I hated when they used to tape-delay the blazer games. The Olympics are popular enough that they should be able to show them live and then re-show them when they think more people will be home and watching.

With a wife and 2 kids and my travel....... I haven't watched a live sporting event let alone a live tv show in at least 10 years..... except this past years Rose Bowl. It was driving me nuts not being able to skip commercials!

That's what they are doing. I probably wasn't clear enough, but they are showing the olympics live all day long (good events too) on these stations as well as online, and then will have the tape delayed, popular events of the day shown during prime time.

With one caveat... Yes, all 32 sports and 302 medals will be live, but not the opening or closing ceremonies. The reasoning is it's not a sporting event with winners and scores where keeping the outcome secret is difficult. Instead it's entertainment spectacle that should be seen with family/friends gathered around in prime time hours. (they're words, not mine)

When I was a kid I watched the Olympics on ABC. ABC was king of sports broadcasting in those days, including the NBA. I watched every second I could of every Olympic event they'd show. Then NBC bought the rights to broadcasting the Olympics and ruined the whole experience. It was no longer about sports and competition, they turned it into one big interminable boring fucking soap opera of human interest crap. God I hate Bob Costas. That talk box makes baseball games unwatchable, but I digress. Anyway...I gave up watching the Olympics a long time ago. I just don't like the way it's packaged or presented. I have better things to do. Like insult S2 posters. :)

Bob Costas is certainly a complete 'bag... but baseball is responsible for making baseball games unwatchable!

I LOVE the Olympics! I don't care who is broadcasting it. It's the best entertainment spectacle on Earth!
