Wondering what you guys ride? I have had a Trek mountain bike for the past 7 years, but I noticed recently when I did ride it....... it was never on a fucking mountain! Or even on dirt. Great bike, but horribly uncomfortable seat. Have wanted to really get into riding more and not in a bright neon yellow spandex outfit kinda' way. Just around town and the neighborhood with the wife and kids. Found this company called Electra and they make some pretty sweet cruiser type bikes. Read reviews on them and they are all very positive about the quality and craftsmanship. Wondering if any of you guys have had any experience with this style of bike?

Hey FAMS - go to River City in SE (by MLK), or one of the other many bike shops and go check shit out in person. You can see what you like, size you need, feel, etc.

I have a Trek I got at River City. I love it.

But I did have to buy a bigger seat. Those tiny seats that ride your asshole - NOT COOL!!

Cruiser bikes are so heavy and slow. Go by here it should be walking distance from alameda ridge.

My wife and I recently got into biking. From what I saw, cruiser bikes sucked. Got my wife a K2 hybrid and it's pretty good- comfortable, dual suspension, lightweight. I found a beat up specailized rocker comp online for 75 bucks and basically replaced everything but the frame. Since I ride around town, I changed out the mountain bike tires for wheels closer to a hybrid. In total, I spend about 300 on a bike that would cost 1200 and I love it.

I ride a Giant OCR Composite 3 for my road races and training rides.

I ride a Felt S22 for my triathlons.

It totally depends on what you want your bike for. Racing? Cruising? Etc, etc.

I've never been into bicycles but it's something I wouldn't mind getting into.

What are the "Rolls Royce" of bicycles?

I don't like bikes. Maybe when I'm old and immobile. :)

As to the original question, I ride this, but it's red, not black. Used to commute downtown to work with it, now just ride it around.

My previous bike was a very nice road bike, but too often when I locked it up to run into the store or something I'd come back to some dirtbag trying to steal it. Currently I've a 5G Santa Cruz Blur for mountainbiking, but my bad paint-job steel frame beater road bike gets out a lot more. I bought the frame used in Portland for 45$ and then outfitted it with some decent components/wheels. I stripped all the labels off the componentry to be on the DL that it holds some value. Sure some carbon fantasy would go a little bit faster, but I'm not winning the Tour De France. Much more important is that a decent bike is the right size and fits your life.

I use it to commute to the Caltrain and then to my jobber down the Peninsula. I also make it out on night rides a few times a week... in fact I'm off to catch the sunset on the GGBridge!
