The UFC's expansion into Asia, Central and South America has encouraged the UFC to consider adding a new weight division in the next year, 115-lbs., potentially called strawweight or minimumweight.

It will be the UFC's ninth weight division, the lightest so far, and likely it's last. Dana White is adamant that cruiserweight and super heavyweight will never be instituted due to lack of depth above 200-lbs.

    Strawweight, 115lbs (vacant)
    Flyweight, 125lbs (vacant)
    Bantamweight, 135lbs (Dominick Cruz)
    Featherweight, 145lbs (Jose Aldo, Jr.)
    Lightweight, 155lbs (Benson Henderson)
    Welterweight, 170lbs (Georges St-Pierre/Carlos Condit)
    Middleweight, 185lbs (Anderson Silva)
    Light Heavyweight, 205lbs (Jon Jones)
    Heavyweight, 265lbs (Junior dos Santos)

Personally I think it is overkill. Too many divisions means too few top contender matches. Fighters shouldn't be able to shift two or more weight classes, as the lighter fighters would in this scenario, like with boxing.

If they do a weight class every 15lbs., I think it is more competitive. If they were to realign, they could have eight classes and still incorporate the lightest fighters.

    115 Bantamweight (vacant)
    130 Featherweight (Dominick Cruz)
    145 Lightweight (Jose Aldo, Jr.)
    160 Welterweight (Benson Henderson)
    175 Middleweight (Georges St-Pierre/Carlos Condit)
    190 Light Heavyweight (Anderson Silva)
    205 Cruiserweight (Jon Jones)
    265 Heavyweight (Junior dos Santos)

Average weight around the world is 137-lbs.

    United States: 177-lbs.

The lighter weight classes aren't for us overstuffed North Americans.

But it will probably be later than sooner that we see this class added. Just not enough depth right now.
