Re: UFC on FOX 4: Shogun vs. Vera (Aug/9)

I dunno, maybe Chael is a legit option. LHW is looking kind of thin for top contenders at the moment. I think a lot of people are hoping that Teixeira is the real deal.

DFW has promised that Gustafsson's next fight will be against a major opponent. Sounds like it might be Rashad.

He walks around at 217 range. Might be a good try for him.

He has washed the middleweight division besides one lol

Sorry, had the wrong date on this event, guys, should've said August 4th (this Saturday).

Well... that was one hell of a show. The UFC probably got some new fans tonight. Imagine all the people sick of the Olympics getting a load of that for the first time.

More like 2 gets 50k and J-Lau gets 100k. He now has the record for most "of the night" bonuses.

lol its funny, when I saw that live it was the moment I was 100% convinced that the UFC somehow plants these broads ringside...then the rest of the show were a bunch of really beat middle aged women.

Great card. I embarrassed myself telling my friends how Bader was gonna smash Machida lol. Good for the Dragon though. Best hes looked since the Rashad fight, maybe his being underweight helped?

Ah, fair enough. I just don't think Bader has what it takes to be top level. He's a B rate fighter, IMO and every time he gets thrown in there with the current class of LHW's, I think he will lose. Where does he go from here?

Where does Shogun go from here? He won his fight, but didn't look that amazing. Maybe Gustaffson? I would really like to see Machida/Rua III and the winner of that fight get to fight the winner of Hendo/Bones.

After that win by Machida I'm fine with letting him get the next shot. He's also the only guy who's given Jones any trouble. Gustafsson/Rua is a good idea, could be a potential title eliminator as well but is Gustafsson ready? He's won 5 in a row including his last 3 against Hamill, Matyushenko, and T. Silva but Shogun is a big step up in competition. He also got sub'ed by Phil Davis not too long ago. I don't want the UFC to rush him in there with JJ but they're running out of options.

Did we ever get any word on whether Machida was planning on moving to 185?

I think if Machida lost, he would have moved down, but with a title shot in hand, I don't think he's going anywhere. Sooner or later, Jones is going to have to move up to HW, though. If he walks through Hendo and Machida (again), who else is left? A superfight with Anderson? Gustaffson?

I think Machida can beat Jones, though. He won the 1st round in that fight but got clipped with an elbow and choked out. That is unusual for him to get caught like that, so I'd love to see a rematch and see if Machida can impose his gameplan for more than one round.
