So we had our sites set on the likes of, and offered future HOF'ers Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan, and end up with Stotts. Meh.
It was a farce to have Caleb in the running until the end, but it was a good face-saving move to allow him to move back to an assistant role. I'd love to see Stotts bring an offense similar to the Mavs.
Chris Haynes @ChrisBHaynes Kaleb Canales will remain with the #Blazers in some capacity I'm being told.
Not a bad hire at this time. Be interesting to see the offense he teaches the team. Hope it's a lot of movement without the ball. GO BLAZERS!!
Of the available coaches, maybe Stotts just impressed them the most with his vision. Some of us have been wanting to present this search as a sham and maybe they actually just hired the candidate who seemed to be in the best position to lead the team.
Absolutely. Let's hope Carlisle was speaking the truth. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/e...mavericks-assistant-terry-stotts-as-new-coach
I agree with this. Caleb would have been a very easy scapegoat for players to use when things go bad. This young group needs an experienced coach. Maybe when they all become stars, it will be Caleb's time.
Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine Word on coaching grapevine is that keeping Paul Allen fave Kaleb Canales on staff was pre-condition for Terry Stotts getting Blazer job
I think this is a good fit. He can clearly run an interesting offense and his win-loss record is already bad, so he doesn't worry about spending time developing young players. Even if he doesn't stick the offense should be better over the next couple of years.
Why keep just Kaleb when you can keep Kaleb and hire Stotts? Obvious choice, but still underwhelming.
Stotts has a great offensive mind, so for that alone, he will be light years better than Nate. Will he get as much out of the roster? Maybe? Point is, this was a decent hire. I would have preferred Blatt, but oh well
Aww. Just when I had my heart set on Mystery Blatt! To The Lotto, Men!! All kidding, teeth gnashing, and bridge jumping aside, I'm not going to be too hard on Stotts (right now). He has lots of assistant coaching experience. He's had experience as a head coach. He could well be ready for the next level. All the quotes are positive re his ability to make adjustments to take advantage of the opponent's defense. That already makes me feel better than I ever felt about Nate.
Any offense would be an upgrade over that shit that Nate ran. So glad were cleared of that pile. Maybe Batum can actually thrive now.
