As MMA inches closer to the mainstream, the mainstream sponsorship money is coming in. Georges St-Pierre paved the way by signing with Gatorade and Under Armour, and Anderson Silva followed up with Burger King and Nike (and supposedly made close to $10-million for his rematch with Chael Sonnen all told, per reports). Now Jon Jones is the latest fighter to land a front row sponsor by signing a multi-year deal with Nike, which was one of his stated goals as an athlete (really). Jones is likely to be featured more prominently than the other two champions in national ad campaigns. The timing of the deal is fantastic for Jones who is hoping to rebuild his brand after an embarrassing black eye DUI crash earlier this summer in upstate New York.
