The Nets attempted to trade for Dwight Howard in December, March and again in July, offering a package centered around Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and four unprotected first round picks. Brooklyn also would have taken back the contracts of Jason Richardson, Chris Duhon and Earl Clark, who were ultimately included in the four-team trade. A source says the Nets and Magic had animosity in their trade talks due to Orlando's contention that Brooklyn illegally contacted Howard in December without permission.
