I grew up in the suburbs, so i know basically nothing about the portland schools. Could I get some general thoughts on Madison?

Madison used to be nice. 20 years ago. Tons of asian gangs at that school now.

    Essentially.

No, a lot of schools have a bad rap, but I know plenty of people that turn out completely normal from them.

My family is looking for a house right now. I will NOT move into the Madison area (even though there are some nice cheaper homes in that area).
I will also NEVER send my kid there (he is only 5 now LOL).

This is the tool I use for finding houses:

    http://www.greatschools.org

They use test scores to rate schools. Look up Madison.

Well I don't think I can convince my gf to sell her house anytime soon. We're about 75th and Glisan.

Ohhh so you don't have a kid yet. Well then you have plenty of time to look in a better School District before you have one. And when you do have one it will be 14 more years before he/she goes to HS. I wouldn't send my dog to obedience school at Madison. Just sayin'.

The best Portland Public School is Lincoln HS (Ranked a 10 academically and has a great sports program. Also, they are on a 6A level so they will play against the best competition in the state).

My kids will proudly go to Grant (4th generation). Mr. West, you need to move a few blocks my way and out of that Madison district son.

I do not forsee us moving to NW. Not our digs. Hopefully my generation will improve the NE schools as we start raising kids out here too.

Didn't Grant have that "G'ing" athletes hazing thing just last year?

Ya, my dad is a teacher/coach there still and he said it was blown out of proportion. I'm biased of course, but it has an amazing history and tradition. You should try to slide our way 20 blocks. The Alameda school district is probably one of the best around. (in the city of course)

Another great school. It is ranked a 9. I would love to send my kid there too. As a matter of fact I have 11 years to buy a house in that area. Wish me luck!

Quoted for Truth. That's where I want my son to be. Either there or at Lincoln eventually.
