Re: UFC 151 fallout: show cancelled, Jones/Machida in Toronto, White fuming

Wiedman feels he deserves a title shot against Anderson Silva and DFW feels the same way, different scenarios, IMO. One is the champion and one is the #1 contender. Anderson reportedly wasn't ready to fight Weidman and wants to wait until the new year to fight again, so Weidman said he'd wait. I don't see how the situations are the same?

I don't know, I just don't get it. You're the LHW champion and you're supposed to be a fighter. Why would you not fight? If your boss asks you to fight, you fight. Just more of the cockiness that follows JJ around.

Whatever, now all we can hope for is for Machida to fix what he did wrong last time and win more than 1 round this time.

Wonder if Dan heals up quickly, which he should as its only a partial tear and he's been seen wearing, and I quote, "A Stone Cold Steve Austin knee brace" around town, will Dana give him the winner? It should still keep Gustaffson and Shogun on track to fight the winner of Hendo and Jones/Machida II.

Jon Jones is a douche. I hope Machida kicks his ass.

Would have loved to have seen Sonnen against Jones.

Machida passes up title shot, Vitor Belfort is now fighting Jon Jones on the 22nd. Because of this, Machida will have to fight another top contender before getting another crack at the belt, according to DFW. Machida/Hendo? Machida/Shogun III? Give Gustaffson someone else? Is Hendo still the top contender? He is the SF champ and does deserve the shot, but he can not keep this #1 contender spot locked up for too much longer. Give Hendo the winner of Belfort/Jones either in November or Super Bowl weekend and be done with it? Machida/Hendo @ The NYE card?

Anderson Silva called Dana White and offered to take a fight @ 151 on 8 days notice against another LHW to save the card. However, Dana got the call a couple hours too late as he already announced the cancellation. Fuck, that would have been pretty awesome. I don't think it would have been Anderson/Jones, but who knows? JJ, take notes, despite the headaches Silva caused in the past, he is a company man.

Why did Machida pass on a title shot?

And I find it incredibly hard to believe that Anderson was sincere. I'm sure he acted sincere, but it just seems so like him to come in just a little too late acting unselfishly, or should I say unlike his usual self, knowing that DFW or the powers that be would publicize it to make JJ look even worse. I'm a Silva fan, but it reeks of bullshit.

Re: UFC 151 fallout: show cancelled, Jones/Machida in Toronto, White fuming

I could see Silva taking on some B rate LHW like Thiago Silva, Brandon Vera, etc... on very short notice. Can you imagine the pay day it would have secured him?

Machida probably didn't agree for a couple of reasons: He's just coming off of a fight, the last time he fought Jones he took it on short notice and we all saw what happened then, so he probably wants more than 4 weeks to prepare this time, and also, after beating Shogun last time, he said that he wouldn't mind having another fight against a top contender before getting a title shot. He's confident in his abilities to win and not yet ready to rematch Jones?

According to Lorenzo, shogun also turned down the fight. He said thank god Vitor is from the Liddell generation of REAL FIGHTERS. UFC brass doesn't seem too happy with their current stable of fighters...

Hendo suffered the injury three weeks ago and thought he could work through it. It took his team to talk him out of competing. He has been told that he will receive a title shot when healthy, so I'm assuming he gets the winner of Vitor/Jones and Machida will fight another top contender in the time being.

Well this was unexpected. Another middleweight?

Wonder if they asked him about Sonnen again when Machida cancelled?

I really don't get why they just didn't pull Jones all together and see if Hendo would be good to go by 153 or 154? It would have kept everything in line.

well I kinda saw this coming, with increased purses and more at stake to your financial future if you lose, fighters are being more cautious about when and whom they fight. The top draws are not fighting to meet the rent and feed their kids. They're fighting to secure their financial future as they are set for now after a couple of wins.
Increasing the money was a must IMO, but this is a byproduct of increasing them.

I did read some specualtion that Sonnen was already training to fight and perhaps Dan gave him a heads up that he wasn't going to be able to fight... that would explain Sonnen calling out Jones a couple of weeks ago on Twitter so randomly.
