Seattle's late-summer surge has been fueled, naturally, by strong starting pitching. Even the offense has been perking up. After so many rough seasons, August has been a pleasant month for these Mariners. Dustin Ackley hit a three-run homer, Hisashi Iwakuma was hard to hit and the Mariners beat the stumbling Minnesota Twins 5-2 on Tuesday night.
