Tulane safety Devon Walker fractured his spine in a head-to-head collision with a teammate during a game in Tulsa, the team doctor said Saturday. Dr. Buddy Savoie said during a postgame news conference that Walker is in stable condition and will need spinal surgery in the "the next day or two." Devon had a bright future. He was majoring in molecular and cell biology with the hopes of being a pharmacist. I never knew him myself, but I lived with football players throughout college, so we have mutual friends who've said nothing but good things about Devon. Tulane may not win a lot of games, but they've always prided themselves on recruiting smart athletes with good character. This is truly tragic. As a Tulane alumni, my thoughts and prayers are with Devon, his family, and his teammates.
