:beerchug: but how did they do this after the trade deadline?BALTIMORE (AP) -- Javy Lopez was traded from the Baltimore Orioles to Boston on Friday, a deal that gives the former All-Star another chance to play and provides the Red Sox a replacement for injured catcher Jason Varitek. The Orioles sent Lopez and cash to the Red Sox for a player to be named. Yahoo Sports

You can trade after the deadline by going through waivers. This is a good deal for the Sox. Javy is a good defensive catcher and will help the team with Variteks injuries.

Yeah, basically like PF11 just said, you have to put him on waivers. What this means is that basically any team can pick him up. The Yankees, for example, could pick him up to keep him away from the Red Sox. But in the end they would have to pay him millions, and the Red Sox could probably pick up someone else who is nearly as good.

Haha yes S2S no cap room in baseball, thats why the Yankees have an all star at every position. Anyways, I like this move a lot.Javy is a solid catcher that can fill in and do well. He won't be as good as Varitek, but he will get the job done while Varitek is injured.

Javy can still hit, and was one of the top hitting catchers in Atlanta and his earlier days in Baltimore. Boston will be pleased with Javy for the time being.
