--When you take structural deficits (not ones based on things with sunsets like TARP, Stimulus or war) from $100-300B and blow them up to well over a trillion, you bet you talk about the debt. That money isn't free; it has to be repaid. And if it's not a big deal, then why did then-candidate Obama call Bush's deficits "unpatriotic"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kuTG19Cu_Q

--His foreign policy of trying to mollify our enemies and distance us from our friends projects weakness and has proven to be a disaster. His biggest successes are following Bush policies. You'll note he hasn't closed Guantanimo. And how 'bout that Patriot Act that he has extended? And while it's great to kill all these people, wouldn't it be better to capture them and collect intelligence? Leading from behind is creating a vacuum for bad actors (jihadist, China, Russia) to fill.

--The GM bailout, which not only cost the American taxpayer $50B, but violated corporate law by removing the bondholders and paying off the UAW. It's a HUGE deal; something you would see in a banana republic and undermines the creditworthiness of our financial institutions. We used to be THE place to park money safely. Do you think corporate bonds won't now be thought of as riskier?

--Obamacare. It has shown not only will it not lower costs, it won't improve care and fewer people will be covered. So, what was the point in spending almost $2T on it? http://news.yahoo.com/cbo-obamacare-price-tag-shifts-940-billion-1-163500655.html

--Role of the Executive. No one, not even Richard Nixon, has tried to expand the power of the Executive like President Obama. He has proudly stated that where Congress won't go along with him, he'll accomplish through rules issued by bureaucrats.

--Lack of leadership on the budget. The Senate hasn't passed a budget in almost 1,200 days. His budgets haven't receive a single vote. Not even the Democrats will vote in favor of those cost increases. The dirty little secret is that President Obama wants it this way. He won't sit down with the Republicans and hammer out a deal. Every other administration found a way to work with a Congress where there was at least one chamber in the hands of the other party. However, with no budget, he can just baseline increases.

I could go on and on and on and on, but it would fill too much space.

Where is The Hateful Kook? I'm off reading other threads. He figures he can drag the U.S. into war by starting OT threads. He's very angry lately. What happened to the cheery PapaG we all know and love?

This offer expires 48 hours from now. It's an easy $5000, Papa. If you're right, you won't have to do anything. Go for it!

    both

    Some people genuinely disagree.
Some people hate that an African American Democrat won. It would not matter what he did in office. It does not matter, in fact, they just make shit up. Like he's taking away guns, when in fact he's been slammed by gun control advocates for pro-gun legislation signed. Or death panels. Or instituting Sharia law. Or being foreign born.

I won't say everyone who opposes Obama or who votes for Romney (they are not, of course, the same) does so out of personal animus, but I've seen enough comments to make it clear some do. I don't have studies on hand to show exact percentage.

This stuff exists. But this stuff is WAY WAY WAY overblown, especially in the swing states, which is really all that matters.

And as a counterpoint, there are those who oppose Romney and who will vote for Obama because of anti-Mormon bias, because he is white (the anti-white sentiment among blacks especially and also some hispanics is considerable) or personal dislike of Romney and not out of a careful review of the two men and their respective positions.

So, do you have anything of substance to indicate that there is much of a difference, net net?

If not, this is falling for the just one of the media's constant themes of trivial bullshit to continue avoiding the real and substantive issues.

    Gallup 10/23

    Romney 52
    Obama 45

    Rassmussen 10/23

Romney 50 (first time ever at 50 in Rass poll)
    Obama 46

    :MARIS61:

Somebody had better post more Mormom bigotry. That seems to be working well.

    Hey papa,

This is a bet I will gladly pay as I am hoping Romney wins this election.

For me, it was a good bet at the time, but Romney has been very effective is getting his message out that he will be better for the economy than Obama. Your polls show he now has a chance in this election . . . which many didn't think he had a chance before the debates.

I still think it's a lot closer than the current polls, but I like that Romney proved to be presidential in the 3 debates, while the current President was reduced to snark and zingers last night.

While that may work with his base, it doesn't work with undecided voters who are struggling to keep their jobs or pay their bills.

    We'll see...

I think people struggling with their jobs and paying bills will be voting for Obama.

Business people and voters who are feeling good about their situation but concerned about the nation's economic situation will be voting for Romney.

Woman are the x-factor in this election and what I think will push Obama over the top.

I wonder if those "undecided" voters aren't choosing between Obama vs. Romney, but rather voting for Romney or not voting at all?

I had heard the other morning that the youth are strongly for Obama, but as par a weak turn out. However the Romney youth vote is quite strong in turn out.
