This is new info to the cell phone generation. Before you could just phone your way out of an auto breakdown in the wilderness, everybody kept some tools in the trunk. When I inherited my Utah grandfather's car, it contained camping equipment, spare tire sealant, etc.

Until Reagan irresponsibly laughed it off, there was widespread fear of nuclear war. In the early 60s I kept things in my parents' station wagons, as the media recommended. I changed the water and food periodically. People on Oahu knew that it had many military bases and would be incinerated.

I've just got a shit load of cigarettes. Those people will be so desperate for a smoke, I'll just trade them for stuff I need.

    heres an interesting philosophical question

say you and your family are in a bunker with alot of supplies, and there is another family next door with supplies but not as much as you.

sooner or later, they will run out and come to you looking for a handout, and then when the handouts end and they get desperate, they will likely try to take your supplies by force, and you will be forced to kill them

does it not make more sense to just go over there the first day and kill them preemptively?

Would you have room in your bunker for supplies, or would you have to dump some roofies to make room?

No, I'd rather start by sharing supplies in exchange for services. Maybe they can fix something I can't.

I always figured if an emergency blocked access to grocery stores the whole block would be seeking help from my enormous vegetable garden.

You make a good point that no matter what you have, you only have that which you can defend.

I as well as all of us could momentarily survive IF we were at home when disaster strikes. What if you took the train to work every work day and a 8:40 Am 9/11 happens again with a Nuke involved. Wait.... With a nuke involved who really wants to survive?? "We is all done"
