Strikeforce has canceled Saturday's event in Sacramento, California, following the withdrawal of champion Gilbert Melendez due to injury. Ten fights were scheduled for the card including a bout between Melendez and Paul Healy for the Strikeforce lightweight title. Melendez has been vocal in his disappointment in Strikeforce for failing to find him good contenders to his title and desperately wants to leave the promotion to join the UFC but his contract with Strikeforce is exclusive. Presumably ticket sales for this event were already poor for them to cancel the show outright. Edit: apparently Showtime told Strikeforce that they wouldn't televise the event without Melendez, so Strikeforce called it off.
Josh Thompson says he offered to fight Healy but obviously if Showtime wanted Melendez or nothing it didn't matter.
