Announcement Coming Soon! hah. we'll see what's up, my birthday is actually the night after the Brandon Roy game so I might go out on the town on that Friday night anyways.
Last weekend in PDX: When to Thien Hong. Pepper Salted Shrimp was awesome as always...and my usual jackfruit shake. Also hit up Departure Lounge for a late dinner..shit was pretty fucking good. not a hole in the wall but we just got wasted and shared plates of food. hit up the Indian food pod on 10th...wanted to get Nong...but they were already closed. chicken tikka masala was...strange. but kind of grubbin anyway. hit up the food pod lot on Mississipi in North Portland. Ate at the Big Egg and also some country BBQ place where I got biscuits and gravy. both awesome but it took 25 minutes to get the biscuits and gravy (cut biscuit, pour gravy on top) and 45 minutes to get my egg sandwhich (they did say it'd take that long for the "wait"). Felt like I was in an episode of Portlandia with how long it was..wanted to go to Pine State but crowded as fuck. Found JJ Hickson there though in his twitter contest but we were too late to win the tickets. lets see..also hit up burgerville which is always gangsta for me at least. drove by stanichs...which i haven't had since high school. damn. Also a fan of Sayler's Old Country Kitchen. just love their prix fix steak menus. oh yeah, I also had steak bites at the Acropolis Steakhouse. highly reco'd!
Damn if I can remember the name, but there used to be a tin rofed joint on N Greeley, just south of the Swan Island exit. Super burgers and those big old style milk shakes, where they would bring you the ballance in a mix cup. need to see if it still stands....
How long ago? Are you talking about Beaterville Cafe? Its not exactly on Greeley, but in the area. South of the Swan Island exit is all industrial area.
Last time I was there was the mid 80s, so who knows if it is still standing. Looking around the area, its like it should be close to where the portland public schools office is at now, I remember the tracks , going under the freeway... going north the place was on the right hand side...
Bo Mack's BBQ in downtown Albany. Family owned and operated, and they have some of the best smoked chicken I have ever tasted. Vault 244 has excellent upscale food, plus they sell Franziscaner Hefe-Weisse, which RULES.
Roake's. The one on Columbia Ave. makes the best burgers. The dogs are always awesome at either place!
I think I heard Bourdain mention something along these lines: Nowadays, the wealthy get in line to eat tripe, organ meats, and previous throw-a-ways...while the poor get in line to eat Red Lobster.
