PBS will be fine without government support. I'll certainly give more money to both OPB and CPR (Colorado Public Radio). People are willing to pay for things of real value.

I doubt it would be gone without government subsidization.

Romney didn't have to prepare much of a defense. Answer for RomneyCare (it wasn't partisan, passed with votes of both parties, no parliamentary tricks, all but 2 voted for it, etc.). Call Obama a liar if he misrepresented Romney's plans.

    Anything else didn't matter much.

On offense, just memorizing a few statistics (unemployment, foreclosures, debt, deficit, etc.) was enough to put exactly what Obama doesn't want to talk about, at any point in the campaign, on everyone's radar.

I have no problem with donors and advertisers being the only support of PBS.

I only posted the Big Bird tweet and the pissed off muppet picture because I thought they were funny. I also think John Stewart is funny but I don't agree with all of his politics.

I've not been a fan of Romney whatsoever, but with regard to your post, I could not agree more. I was coming from a very skeptical POV and was quite impressed with Romney's ability to respond quickly and decisively. He really did well and I'm stunned that I think so.

Heh, face it, Sly, you're just a rebel-rouser at heart. In fact, you kind of remind me of this guy. ;)

This debate is the same as every other debate. If your a democrat your candidate won the debate, if your a republican your candidate won the debate. Same thing every time.
Personally I think Romney seemed more together, he was able to pull Obama out of his comfort zone more then he was able to pull Romney out. I don't want to elaborate to much on it before I read the transcript because I was chasing around my 1 year old daughter for most of it.

You can't touch PBS! That's just not right!

Once again we saw him flip-flop (etch-a-sketch, anyone?), which I've come to expect. "I won't cut defense, I will give more tax breaks to the wealthy, I will repeal and replace Obamacare--but I don't know with what., I will deregulate."

P.S. Maxiep, who is that woman in your signature? I swear she looks so familiar. Does she work at a Starbucks?

I was expecting a much better debater then the previous two republican candidates but I wasn't prepared for how quick and sharp Romney was.

I can't help but point out that he is in a position of telling people what they want to hear, basically the exact same position Obama was in '08

There is certainly something to be said about Obama's real world, presidential experience now. Yes, Romney was sharp, quick, convincing. But in a sense he was pandering as well. Obama's reactions, to me, (race excluded, just using this term because it fits how I saw the debate) was "shit *****....you have no idea...."

Barry would have fared better had he entered the stage with those moves.

    When you've lost MSNBC...

My moves, would have been Obama keeping those gas prices around the same region when he was first elected. These gas prices are downright sickening and gross. No wonder the US economy is still in the shitcan. Nobody can drive their cars or move to apply for better jobs, etc. I'm so sick of politics and who will run this country better. The issue is these gas prices are hurting the US working class period.

Just curious: is there anyone here, anyone at all, who will change the way they vote on the basis of this resounding debate win by Mitt Romney?

I've got to think that the kind of people who were undecided are the kind of people that wouldn't watch a debate. And the kind of people who were going to vote for Obama are going to look at Romney and say "you slick lying bastard".

Also: does anyone remember ANYTHING AT ALL about the Obama/McCain debates?

    What picture?

Unemployment was 7.8% when Obama took office.

the 2nd picture after the one in 2008 "this is in Portland".

    It was obviously photoshopped.
Well, there are two issues with that imho. For starters, using "when so and so took office" is misleading because that president doesn't have much ability to do things immediately economically. Their policies don't take into effect right away, iirc.

So yeah, technically yeah it was lower under Bush (at the end), but the unemployment rate has a delay bounce. So it's disingenuous to use that # (as it is to say "gas was X dollars when Y president was elected, and now it's C dollars").

The photos aren't photoshopped. That was an actual Obama event from 2008 in some small town in Wisconsin.

I don't agree about the unemployment rate. Obama could and did things immediately that could have and should have affected the unemployment rate. He swore his $800B stimulus package would mitigate rising unemployment, and that $800B package was passed within 30 days of his taking office. He also had the 2nd half of TARP to spend (another $350B), already approved and on his credit card from day 1.

The gas price thing? I think it's true but misleading. Gas prices were nearly this high under Bush for a significant part of his term. People complained about it and when asked one time about it, he said he'd "jaw at the arabs" to get them to cut prices. I don't mind his plain speech, but it sure was memorable. That said, Obama's had no energy policy that's helped anyone with energy costs and he's had plenty of time to get something done on that front.

I just took another look at it. Definitely not photoshopped. All those people needed to use the laundromat and went to the change booth to get quarters.
