I like the idea of unions and think they've done a lot of good.

I disagree they treat everyone the same as the average. They treat everyone as if they're considerably better than average.

What I dislike about unions is that they are not voluntary associations. You have to join one to work many places, even if you'd prefer to negotiate your own terms with the company instead. It's fine for the unions to run themselves democratically, but the workplace is not the government so there is no requirement that it be run democratically (e.g. 50%+1 vote to form a union, everyone has to join).

Neato. You just wrote a long post claiming that people in a union can like their job. Excellent strawman.

You basically proved my point by saying that "with seniority" Zaggs will move up. Those who are pro-union are fine with letting seniority, not performance, dictate their progress.

And some people have been brainwashed into thinking that the only way you can be successful is to stomp and steal. Good idea... let's vilify success and all strive to be average.

Well guys, it's been fun. I have to be off the internet by 8pm. My mom is calling me up from the basement for dessert. She's been making me a warm brownie and a nice tall glass of milk.

Again, I'm not really exactly sure how UPS operates but "with seniority" seems like it works pretty damn well for them. You have people working in a warehouse sorting boxes and loading trucks and if they do it long enough they get to drive the truck and make more money. What system do you think would serve UPS better? Seems like a pretty good carrot to me. Show up, do your job and you can get a better job.

Having owned a delivery company I know first hand that the sorting and loading part is just as important as the actual delivery part. UPS using "seniority" has found a way to pay their employees less for that part of the job compared to the actual delivery part. An employee like Zags is happy with this arrangement, UPS is happy with this but for some strange reason this bugs you. Why?

Thanks for exactly confirming my point. It's not about what Romney believes, it's about how terrible Obama is! Down with Obama!!! And hey Obama isn't perfect, but at least he knows where he stands, unlike Etch-a-Sketch Romney.

BB30 and I are having a discussion. We're not name calling. Just exchanging views. There's no need to post pictures of douche bags. If you disagree with him tell him why.

I'm not sure why you're still arguing against something I didn't say. I don't care if Zags or others are happy with their arrangement or like their job. I said if somebody is confident in their ability to perform at a level higher than the bulk or mean, then it isn't in their best interests to want to be part of a union.

Well, they made a dumb decision. If they didn't realize they were doing so, then yes, their intelligence should be questioned.
